恆春機場已4年多沒有一客運班機起降，引起外界討論機場存廢，政府3年前確定朝活化努力。交通部民航局今天說，3月已同意屏東縣政府再試辦2年包機。

恆春機場從2014年9月起，就沒有客運班機起降，2017年3月，行政院同意屏東縣政府試辦兩年國際包機，不過，至今還未有包機飛航。
民航局場站組長朱冠文說，屏東縣政府向民航局申請延長包機試辦期，計畫報請交通部、行政院獲准，3月已同意延長2年。
朱冠文說，目前恆春機場朝多方面活化，飛航訓練學校安捷航空曾申請飛航訓練，另有軍方及公務單位無人機起降，航空站則租給民間舉辦飛航相關活動，另也開放做為校外教學場所。
恆春機場航空站代理主任李聰文說，機場包括航管、氣象、助導航及消防人員共12人，機場設施定期維護，隨時都能使用。
朱冠文說，恆春航空站每年費用支出約新台幣2500萬元，若含折舊的帳面費用約5000多萬元。
恆春機場當年是為發展墾丁的觀光而興建，2004年營運至今只開航過台北-恆春，剛開始有3家航空公司經營，2007年起，剩立榮航空苦撐。
2014年8月，立榮國內航線改用機型較大的ATR72-600型飛機，取代原本的Dash機型，因安全標準較高，恆春機場常有落山風，不利飛機起降，同年9月起，恆春機場不再有客運班機起降。
不過，恆春機場網站的航班資訊目前仍顯示立榮航空每週兩班的班次及起降時間，立榮航空15日在官網公告，奉交通部核准，台北-恆春航線自2019年5月28日起停航。

Zhu Guanwen said that at present, Hengchun Airport has been activated in many aspects. Li Congwen, acting director of Hengchun Airport Air Station, said that the airport includes 12 air traffic control, meteorological, navigation and firefighting personnel. The airport facilities are regularly maintained and can be used at any time.
Zhu Guanwen said that the annual expenditure of Hengchun Air Station is about NT$25 million, and the book cost of depreciation is about 50 million yuan.
Hengchun Airport was built for the development of Kenting's tourism. In 2004, it only sailed through Taipei-Hengchun. At the beginning, there were three airlines operating. Since 2007, Lirong Air has been struggling.
In August 2014, Lirong's domestic route was changed to the larger ATR72-600 aircraft, replacing the original Dash model. Due to the high safety standards, Hengchun Airport often has a downhill wind, which is not suitable for aircraft taking off and landing. From the beginning of the month, Hengchun Airport no longer has passenger flights to take off and land.
However, the flight information of Hengchun Airport website still shows the two shifts and take-off time of Lirong Airlines twice a week.
