JOHOR BAHARU, May 21 – A Singaporean man was sentenced to seven days’ jail and fined RM5,000 or five month’s jail for reckless driving and endangering the public by causing a collision involving the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim’s police motorcycle outrider yesterday.

Benjamin Lourdes, 30, pleaded guilty before magistrate Noor Farhana Mohd Shanif.


Lourdes was alleged to have recklessly driven a car bearing registration SGE3601L (Subaru Impreza) and caused a collision with a police motorcycle registered WSF 1047 at Jalan Lingkaran Dalam here at 1.40pm yesterday.

He was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a penalty of up to five years in jail and fine up of to RM15,000, upon conviction. – Bernama

JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean was sentenced to seven days' jail and fined RM5,000 by the magistrate's court here yesterday for ramming into a policeman on a motorcycle on Monday afternoon.
S. Benjamin Lourdes, 30, a mobile telecommunications simcard trader, was also ordered to serve five months' jail if he did not settle his fine.
Lourdes, who was driving a Subaru, had rammed into the 24-year-old policeman at Jalan Lingkungan Dalam while the policeman was escorting the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar from Larkin back to the Istana Pasir Pelangi here. The policeman suffered injuries to his right leg as a result of the collision.
Lourdes, who was charged with reckless and dangerous driving, apologised to magistrate Noor Farhana Mohd Shanif before sentence was passed.
Inspector Noorina Mohd Arshad prosecuted while Lourdes was unrepresented.
Lourdes cried outside the courtroom and was comforted by his family members.
