Beggar splashes boiling oil on woman for not giving him food

AN Indonesian woman had boiling oil splashed on her when she refused to give food to a beggar at a hawker stall where she worked.
China Press reported that Sofia Batrisya, 30, was taking orders from customers when a man, believed to be a drug addict, asked for food at about 3.30pm on Saturday.
When she brushed him off, the man ran amok and reached for hot cooking oil from the stall and splashed the woman.
Horrified customers subdued him before handing him to the police.
The incident, which took place at a food court of a shopping complex in Petaling Jaya, caused 14% burns on the woman’s body.
> Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported that a study by the Singapore-based Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME) found that there were now more cases of foreign maids being abused and working in poor conditions.
HOME also found that more maids suffered from malnutrition.
Shanti, a maid who was rescued, said her former employer only gave her one meal of rice and curry chicken for an entire week. She was also not allowed to eat leftovers.
In another case, Aminah said her weight dropped from 49kg to a shocking 29kg after working as a maid in Singapore.
Eventually, she was admitted to hospital due to malnourishment.
