Disgruntled customers have lodged complaints to the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) against a beauty salon, accusing the salon of pressure selling and misleading claims.
One of them, 32-year-old Mrs Low, claimed she was trapped in one of the beauty salon's outlets for hours and not allowed to leave or use the toilet until she signed up for a package with them.
She had gone there with a friend at about 6.30pm on 7 Aug last year for a $6 pedicure. While both women received good service during the pedicure at Wax in the City's Orchard Central outlet, the man who attended to them persisted in getting them to sign up for packages afterwards.
When they tried to leave by asking to go to the toilet, the were told that one of them had to stay behind. But the staff did not forcibly restrain or block them. The two women eventually left after signing up for the cheapest package, a one-for-one $988 package.
Case said they received 24 complaints about the salon last year, and 19 so far this year, alleging pressure selling, misleading claims, unsatisfactory services and difficulty in utilising services.
