Only that it's known in it's English name, "Socialist Front".

My guess was right, CTL is the Sec-Gen.

Ex-WP election candidates form Socialist Front party
By Andrea Ong

SINGAPORE has a new political party, the Socialist Front, formed by two former Workers' Party (WP) election candidates.

They are retired businessman Ng Teck Siong, 69, and lawyer Chia Ti Lik, 36.

It is the second opposition party to be formed this year, following the starting of the United Singapore Democrats in April.

Mr Ng, the new party's chairman, confirmed the online Government Gazette's news yesterday that the Registrar of Societies had given his party the nod.

'I am very happy our application has been approved,' he told The Straits Times last night, adding that registration was sought in May.

However, he declined to disclose the party's manifesto, names of the other nine party members or plans for the next general election, due by February 2012.

'These will be revealed at a press conference to be held after the party's logo has been approved by the registrar,' he said. Approval of the logo, which was submitted on Wednesday, will take about two weeks, he added.

The party's home is listed as Nehsons Building, in Peck Seah Street, where Mr Chia's office is located.

Mr Chia, secretary-general of the new party, said the address is temporary as it has to raise funds for a permanent place.

Back in 2006, he had contested East Coast GRC in the general election. Mr Ng, on the other hand, contested West Coast GRC in the 1997 General Election.

Mr Ng left the WP in 2001 and co-founded the Reform Party in 2008 with Mr J. B. Jeyaretnam. He was its chairman until he quit last April following a spat with Mr Jeyaretnam's son Kenneth, who is now its secretary-general.

He said yesterday the issues he is keen to address include the current political system and bread-and-butter concerns, like the rising costs for small and medium-sized enterprises.

He also said his party will work on getting the opposition parties to cooperate.

The only doubtful is NTS's attempts to "getting the opposition parties to cooperate". Surely he wouldn't be able to include RP, even if he wants to.

too many useless morons in sg want to be indian chiefs.

It's alright to want to be Indian Chief as long as they are elected by voters.

Unfortunately as much as I hate to say it since the Sec-Gen is one of our Sammyboy compatriots, the SF potentially looks like it has a short life span. NTS is kind of old and CTL tends to have short term focus. Otherwise, everything is fine.

I believe even RP stands a risk of going to the showers in 2 elections time. They have healthy recruitment for now, but have raised their morale and expectation too high and people would start leaving if it doesn't win even one seat. Like WP which had a bout of recruitment but only a few stay (but they still have a seat).

SDA can't last beyond Chiam and would be a one-man DL party.

NSP is likely to shrink since they have a number of old blood. A lot would depend on Cpt GMS whether he gives up or not.

I believe in 3 elections' time, the 2 parties likely to be still around would be WP and SDP. But there will be new parties also.

Ex-WP election candidates form Socialist Front party

I would avoid that party at all cause. If they ever get to become the next gov, it would be high tax, big gov spending and big gov control and big gov! That's what socialist gov are. They are worst than current PAP.

The BS party. lol. They could seriously have chosen a better name

Most of the younger voters, aeven pple from my generation(late 70s early 80s) wont know about the significance of the name, not to mention most SGreans dont know malay so Barisan Sosialis means nothing to us.

You are right! They could have joined the PAP instead. A political party with ONLY one economist within its parliamentary ranks! A PM wearing pink shirts and walks like a woman and has a wife that looks more manly than him.

What a joke the PAP truly is!

And when they speak, they deliberately hide facts and speak with naked lies to mislead and hoodwink the populace. Yes. Yes, the PAP is the besterest in all of the world.

And your PAP is a fascist political party which have strong socialist leanings but cheapen on the elderly in their populace.

In fact, your PAP doesn't even give a damn about middle and lower income people like you. Your PAP has sold you out to FTs and yet you have time to talk about the APs.

People like you are the typical 66.6%. Your numbers have shrunk and your vermin and idiocy online has increased. Your time has come for you and your kind to be replaced by Singaporeans for Singaporeans in the Singapore parliament.

Are you that fucking dumb and stupid? Can't you tell that this Socialist party will be worst than the current PAP??? You mean you are so stupid that you are willing to jump from a fire to a boiling pot? How dumb can you get???

I do not like the current PAP and most of it's policies but I am not stupid like you to vote for another "PAP" just because I want to get this PAP out. Use your fucking brain idiot!

I will vote for a party that propose different policy than this current gov like smaller gov, even smaller gov control, reduce tax and possible, do away with income tax as I do not believe in taxing our hard earned income cos we are already paying so many tax, and hold free market principle and not pretend free market with so many GICs and GLCs controlling and restricting competitions.

Only dumb idiots like you will vote for any party even a communist party just because he want to get rid of PAP.

My guess is another vehicle to obtain foreign funds, paid T&E to overseas forums organised by NGOs. After govt curtailed Gomez's newly formed NGO from receiving funds, it now moribund. I feel sorry for Ng.

You feel sorry for Ng ... because ... despite 30 years in opposition politics he still has an "Ah Q" mentality and is easily manipulated or even made use of by other people? Or because he can't even string two sentences of good English together?

I don't think so. Parties are already curtailed from receiving foreign funds. The reason why govt had to specially curtail SFD was because SFD wasn't a party. They did it to political organisations like Think Centre - making them wear a hat of political organisation.

Also, Gomez isn't involved in SF (although he may at a later date).

Dear Perspective,

I cannot speak for other parties but for NSP, I do not think it will collapse just because I am not here anymore. Who knows, tomorrow I may meet a fatal accident or whatever... Life is unpredictable.

NSP has strong individual characters like Steve Chia, Tan Chee Kien, Sebastian Teo, Yip Yew Weng, Christopher Neo, Ken Sun... the list goes on. It is unique in this sense as there are more mix of strong characters in NSP than any other parties. If anything happens to me, anyone of them could possibly take over and shoulder on.

The good news is, in recent days, we have managed to recruit quite a number of people into our rank and file. Most likely, we will be able to form our own Malay Bureau in time to come. NSP will no longer to be viewed as "Chinese Towkay Party" as my direction is to be part of the government in the next 15 years time.

With or without me, NSP will survive and strive on as the foundation that we are strengthening at this moment, will make it survive and grow. There will definitely be MPs from NSP for the next 10 years, this I can guarantee. If I am not confident of achieving that, I would have quit politics altogether since 2006.

Don't be naive. They never expected the NGO conditions for Gomez's vehicle to be similar to Political Parties. If it is the same, might as start a political party which has a higher profile and a stage to attract foreign NGOs. The end game is not to win a seat in parliament. Its the sense of importance as one gets paid invitations to attend political and human rights conferences and gatherings on the basis they are fighting for Singaporeans. As you correctly pointed out, short term focus. Remember the spotlight as he rushed down to appear for every joker that got arrested and did not have time to have breakfast. I am sure you know that this couple have been hitting the circuit.

A well known the lady lawyer used a similar vehicle to build her practice and travel around the world. In her case it was not political but NGO that was concerned about women's rights. She and her husband who is not a qualified lawyer but works in the firm did exactly that for years.

By the way, heard anything about James Gomez's vehicle.

WP has two actually, if you include the token seat. Yes, brain drain from WP is embarrassing. But WP has got gerald giam. Pity LTK does not make better use of him. He should have been elected into the CEC and given a good post by now/

Actually your guess is wrong.

It is a vehicle to contest SMCs.

All the rest are contesting GRCs in order to achieve the break in PAP's hegemony. If no one contests SMC and raise his own profile, wasted right?

NSP needs lots of recruitment as the leaders except yourself, Steve and Elvin Ong, are all around 60. I'm glad to hear that it is in progress.

Neutral political analysis tends to be offensive, but that is not my intention.
