[h=2]Minister Ng trying to divide in order to conquer[/h]

Ng Eng Hen is playing divisive politics to create division between
online and offline Singaporean patriots.
There are patriots, and there are patriots. Patriots are citizens who care
enough about their country to play their roles in ensuring …that their country
is governed and managed in ways that benefit both country and citizens.
To create division among patriots by taking sides is not what a good
government officer should do. As part of the team elected by the people, to
manage their lives, it is unbecoming of such an officer to use one group as a
potential threat to the other. Even if the minister has concluded that one may
be a threat to the other, the diplomatic and less divisive approach is to warn
every citizen to be careful with what they read and to be discerning when
reading both online and print media. This is the right way.
Unfortunately, there is a war going on. A war that is silently declared on
Netizens by the government, more so the PAP for reason of its political
survival, that the minister has become blinded by what he should do for the PAP
than for the country.
Let us scrutinize…
He felt that it has become harder to communicate information in this day and
age without giving reasons why he thought so. It leaves one thinking why the
main steam media, which is controlled by the State, is losing its grip on being
a reliable and trustworthy news source. Why are these various main platforms and
forums failing them if we keep hearing and seeing statistical evidences which
point to their reliability and integrity? We cannot help but read between the
lines, if the minister is expressing so much fear over the threat posed by
online sites, that the state and its press are not telling the truth or have
been telling half-truths.
I wonder if he knows how silly it has been for the state press and the PAP to
even use Ravi Philemon as their scapegoat when he was only asking what many
Singaporeans were asking, both online and offline. Just because the
clarification was sought online by a blogger does not mean real people in the
real world do not have similar questions to ask. Instead of being thankful that
he was made aware of the problem, he, Yaacob and Vivian, together with the state
press, opted to drown out the problem by going after the one who told them about
it.
One can see the amount of effort the PAP is putting in to battle its online
critics. The establishment of a war time strategy, DRUMS – against distortions,
rumors, untruths, misinformation and smears – cannot be under-stressed. What the
minister and his team had failed to see is that we are peace loving citizens and
patriots. We are telling him that we are already bombarded with DRUMS in peace
time. To prevent a war, all it needed to do is to observe DRUMS. The observation
of DRUMS must first be directed at itself and its state press. Peace will
prevail, for as long as truth is told.
Patriotic citizens will be able to discern and discern well. The minister
does not have to worry for us. It can be online news, comments, and opinions, or
it can be printed news of the same. The platform is secondary. The discerning is
primary. There is no need for the minister to divide in order to
conquer.
