Dr Ng Eng Heng: "just one constituency"

At a community event, responding to media enquiry about WP winning the Punggol East by-election this morning (27 Jan), Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen said that the Punggol East by-election results only reflect the views of just one constituency.

He was responding to questions on whether the by-election outcome is a report card of the PAP’s performance. Dr Ng said this is a by-election in just one constituency.

Asked about the wider-than-expected margin loss by PAP, Dr Ng said, “By-elections always have these big swings and I am sure there will be many analysis back and forth.”

He added that the results of the Punggol East race will not affect how PAP handles national issues.

Dr Ng also took the opportunity to congratulate WP. He said, “This is democracy, the voters in Punggol East have decided that the Workers’ Party is the better party to serve them and I congratulate Ms Lee Li Lian to be the MP to serve them.”

“But for our MPs in Bishan-Toa Payoh, the lesson is very clear: the voters decide who is the better party to serve them. Once they have decided, their faith is entrusted in us as MPs here and we have to work very hard to serve our residents here.”

Asked about the point made by WP chief Low Thia Khiang that a stronger opposition presence in Parliament would make the government work harder, Dr Ng answered, “I have been a MP here for nearly 11 years, and I must honestly say that that never crossed my mind. We serve here week in week out because residents in Bishan-Toa Payoh have entrusted us and it is really they who are our prime motivators to ensure that their lives are better.”

Ms Lee won 54.5% of the valid votes while the PAP’s Dr Koh Poh Koon obtained 43.7%, a swing of 10.8% down from the 54.5% PAP achieved in Punggol East in GE2011.

Good sign. A reflection of the PAP group-think. The PAPies basically are blind to new realities of the ground.

This augurs well for the 2016 GE.

Another PAP stooge to prove how detached the PAP is. They can deny all the way to GE and than...someone has to step out and apology for not knowing what happend. This kind of regular messages we received from PAP ministers is not just yesterday, today or next few days. We heard them saying the same things over the span of many years leading to the 2011 watershed elections and subsequent PM's apology to the voters. Now, we are still seeing them doing the same thing over and over again. If they have not read PE's message as powerful signal to PAP, they will never ever understand what people wants. PAP is doomed to fail with another words of denial from ministers.

Time to knock Ng Eng Hen. He gets to sit wit a fat MINDEF budget.

He added that the results of the Punggol East race will not affect how PAP handles national issues.

One thing very clear, regardless of what the people want, they are adamant to do as they please.

Second, self-denial, self-denial & more self-denial, which is not necessarily a bad thing, for the oppo.
