STARVED, exhausted and dehydrated - Bangladeshi Din Islam was yesterday recuperating at Alexandra Hospital as the details of his horrifying three weeks trapped inside a container emerged.
On Sunday night, workers at the Pasir Panjang Terminal discovered Mr Din, 30, and a dead man in the container, which had been shipped from Bangladesh two weeks earlier.
Yesterday, the police said investigations indicated that both men were believed to be port workers from Bangladesh, who were trapped inside the container by accident while they were taking a rest in it.
It is understood that Mr Din told police that he and the other man - a Mr Alamgir, who is in his 30s - were co-workers at the Chittagong Port in south-eastern Bangladesh.
Around March 21, the two had completed their cleaning chores at the port when they popped into the empty container to take a nap.
When they woke up, they found themselves in darkness, and the door of the container was shut. They shouted and banged on the walls of the container to attract attention. But with their container buried amid the thousands of steel containers in the port, no one was alerted to their nightmare.
