On January 16, Jamaat-e-Islami ‘ameer’ (chief) Shafiqur Rahman said, "There is no alternative to Jamaat-e-Islami in establishing peace in the country. If you want to establish peace in the country, you should come under the shadow of Islam." He added, “We want a country where there is fair freedom of speech. We do not believe in unlimited unfair freedom. We want a society where journalists call white white and black black. We want to ensure that environment for journalists.”​
