Kartina Tahir Thomson is first Malaysian to head UK's Institute and Faculty of Actuaries​

PETALING JAYA: Kartina Tahir Thomson, a senior director of Willis Towers Watson (WTW) in the United Kingdom is the first Malaysian to be elected president of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).

In a statement on Wednesday (March 29), IFoA said Kartina will assume the role of president-elect in June 2023 before taking over as president from June 2024.

"Kartina has had a varied career that includes spending six years at the Bank of England, where she supervised a portfolio of insurance firms responsible for ensuring financial stability of the UK financial market," IFoA said in its statement.

It added that she was a long-time volunteer who has served on the IFoA Council for six years and a member of the IFoA Audit and Risk Committee. She has also been on the board of directors of the Actuarial Association of Europe for four years.


"It is an honour to be entrusted with the role by my fellow council members. By nurturing a collaborative and inclusive culture, we can deepen the impact of the profession both in the United Kingdom and internationally and continue to make a difference in addressing the societal challenges that we face," Kartina said
.

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries is a professional body which represents and regulates actuaries in the United Kingdom.
