Aware membership falls
MEMBERSHIP at women's advocacy group Aware has plummeted to about 550, from a peak of 3,000 last year when its numbers surged amid a controversial takeover.
But executive director Corinna Lim, 45, is not perturbed, as the number is twice the old membership figure.
The Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware) used to have around 300 members yearly.
Said Ms Lim: 'It's a good sign, as we now have more members who are actively involved than before.'
Among those who did not renew their membership are several involved in the leadership grab in March last year.
They include senior lawyer Thio Su Mien, former Aware president Josie Lau and all eight women from her group who secured seats on Aware's executive committee (Exco) last year.
