In 2009, it was revealed that AWARE engaged gay instructors for their schools’ “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” programme, which was suspended as it flouted MOE’s guidelines. MOE found that its external instructors promoted homosexuality and pre-marital sex. Following the 2009 AWARE controversy, MOE suspended all sexuality education programmes conducted by external vendors in schools and tightened its selection and monitoring of vendors. AWARE is not the only organisation attempting to corrupt our youth. In 2014, a group of Hwa Chong Institution alumni petitioned for the suspension of sexuality education workshops offered by Focus on the Family Singapore. The move came after a HCI student criticised the workshop for being sexist and advocating gender stereotypes.
