The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) have resisted calls to relieve national football coach Radojko Avramovic of his post after the Lions' dismal showing in the third round of the Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers.

"The ex-co has analysed his track record and we are confident that under his leadership the team can achieve the target of qualifying for the final of the Suzuki Cup."

The Lions entered the World Cup qualifiers after some poor outings.

They were booted out of the 2010 Suzuki Cup and failed to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup finals.

While they managed to qualify for the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers, they lost all six of their Group A fixtures, including a 7-1 mauling at the hands of Iraq.

As a result, the Lions have dropped to 158 in March's FIFA rankings, the lowest for the Republic.

hes lucky he got 2 old suzuki cup glorys to buy even more ridiculous time...an absolute disgrace for continuing to pick a 40yo striker and still lament no youngsters ready to step up...how to when low chance is given....

I hope Spore do badly in the Suzuki Cup..

knn I thought FAS now using Indian ayurvedic treatment to help Sinkapore lead in Suzuki Cup. So its not but I think its worth a try Indian snake oil.

I rather watch Copa America than some Mickey Mouse Cup football competition.

Buy him, FAS. He is out of contract.

Avramovic is Singapore coach for a long 9 years. that's a very stable rice bowl. all national football teams coaches are surely envious of him.

Raddy Avramovic is a fuck-up coach in more ways than one. Besides the atrocious results from the Lions, Raddy has never once accept the blame for the defeats. He pins the losses on anybody else (players, match officials, fans and even the ball boys) or anything else (like the time the match is played or the pitch condition) but never himself, not once. He growls at the media when they asked difficult questions. The FAS must be mad to continue engaging him. Or is it because he's a FT?

Sundram on the other hand is building a good team with prospects for the future. At the same time, he takes the blame for poor games and admits he could have done better. He's upfront with the media and does not give excuses. When they play well, he gives the credit to the players. Sundram is a true blooded S'porean. We don't need a fuck-up foreign coach who can't find a job in Serbia.
