Australia is set to become the first country in the world to ban teens from having social media accounts, said Australian Communications Minister Anika Wells on Wednesday (Dec 3).
From Dec 10, Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X and YouTube will face fines of up to A$50 million (US$33 million) should they fail to remove accounts of Australian children younger than 16. Live-streaming service Twitch has also been added to the list.
