SYDNEY (AFP) - INDIAN students are robbed more frequently than the general average in Australia and are more likely to be assaulted than other foreign pupils, but race was not the reason, a report found on Thursday.

The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) study, commissioned by Canberra after a diplomatically bruising spate of attacks against Indians, found they suffered higher than average rates of robbery.

Indians were also more likely to be assaulted than other international students, according to the study of scholars from China, India, Malaysia, South Korea and the United States - Australia's top education markets.

But the report downplayed race as a motive in such crimes, despite the attacks on Indian students in 2009 and 2010 which saw a drop-off in the number of lucrative overseas students coming to Australia from the country.

Char this one I heard from an aussie is, the ah nehs prefer to rent in cheap areas where usually is high crome rate. If you stay in high crime place you get higher chance of get mugged than someone who stay in a more moderate place. And the Ah Neh love to play on their laptop on the midnight train. You show off your shiny new laptop on a midnight train you are taking alone, are not not making yourself a betterer target?

I seriously doubt that the real reason. Chinaman are just as cheapo and show offish. Don't see them making themselves a target.

yup in mostly aust chinaman are rich and show off....straight cash purchase from hermes channel kind...drive beamer and benz....chinman usually stay in areas that have lots of yellow people...they are introvert and if anything happen they usually keep quiet...just to avoid trouble....

The reporting media will no doubt downplay race as a factor, by saying it is would not make Aussie society look well. Education is a major source of income.

Granted, it is the minority among disgruntled white populace that carry out these brutal acts. But how determined are the rest to see that justice is meted out appropriately to the perpertrators? What steps are being taken to prevent future attacks?

When hatred by color declines, hatred by class will slowly replace it.

I hope I am wrong.
