And i though i could catch a cab ride back after the F1 race. Might need a bicycle now, unless the public transport will be still operational after the race.

F1 is a better event that helps to increase... employment chances and government pocket.... but think further, with F1 events, our life is getting more difficult... everything goes up... except our salary... government spend millions of dollars for this stupid event and when they have not enough money... more ERPs and different excuses will be made to suck us dry.... in the end, the returns goes to ... WHO ? We are not benefit from the event...

Poor become poorer... Rich become richer.......

How can we consider singapore 1st in transport, now days too many hidden charges eg, ERP, peak hr charge, F1, midnight etc i think they are finding reasons and reasons to raise prices. Unlike HK where the rate is flat throughout Don't you all agree ??

SINGAPORE : SMRT taxis will be implementing a S$5 surcharge per trip during the F1 Grand Prix period - for pickups in 14 locations in the race vicinity.

These include Suntec City, hotels around the Marina area, Hitachi Tower, Centennial Tower, Peninsular Excelsior Hotel, Millenia Tower and Funan DigitaLife Mall.

The surcharge will be in effect from 10.30pm to midnight on September 26 and 27, and 9.30pm to midnight on September 28.

SMRT said the move is to meet the expected increase in demand for taxis after the races.

For those taking public transport, SMRT said 960 additional train trips will be introduced on both the North-South and East-West lines on race days.

Train services will also be extended till 1.30am on these days. - CNA/ms

This S$5 surcharge is to deter locals from taking cabs during the F1 season, so that the rich F1 foreign crowds can have ample cabs available for their usage. This is how locals are treated by SMRT. More profits for SMRT. So sad......... :(

Just another excuse to raise prices

In Malaysia, the taxi drivers are being criticised because some don't want to use the meter. Ha Ha in Spore, profiteering is officially sanctioned by the cab companies.

HaHa . However you view this, both are crimes against society, except that in Spore it has the official agreement of BIG BROTHER.
