After STOMPers reported seeing an SMRT bus on fire along the BKE yesterday morning (Apr 17), concerns about the maintenance of our public buses are being raised by STOMPers.
STOMPer Gary even managed to record a video of the bus while it was burning. The STOMPer also commented:
"This morning, April 17, an SMRT bus went up in smoke along the BKE near the Turf Club exit.
"As I passed the raging fire, the heat from the blaze was unbearably hot.
"Sounds of explosions were heard.
"I wonder how the fire could engulf an entire public bus?
"What happened to its regular maintenance?
"How safe are our public buses?
"What is the likelihood of passengers getting trapped in a situation like this?
"Are our bus captains told that they should be the last to escape from the inferno?"
STOMPer jerlyn added:
"Thick black smoke filled the early morning sky along the BKE yesterday (Apr 17) as the fire engine was putting out the fire of the SMRT bus that was parked on the road shoulder when my family were on our way to Johore for our holiday."
It was reported that SCDF officers put out the fire within 10 minutes and that there were no casualties from the fire.
