SMRT says that the long queues of commuters seen waiting for bus service number 969 at Tampines Interchange are caused by commuters who don’t board half-filled buses.

This was in response to STOMPer JX’s earlier posting, where he suggested that SMRT should deploy more bendy buses for service 969 to cater to the increasing number of commuters.

SMRT says:

"Following the feedback, we contacted the STOMPer for more details to facilitate our investigation. He shared that the picture was taken on 11 May 2009 at about 6.30pm.

"Our findings showed that buses for Service 969 were dispatched at a headway of six to seven minutes on that day, and they were able meet passenger demand.

"As for the STOMPer’s observation of the long queues, we wish to share that we are aware of this occurring at the interchange.

"This situation is caused by commuters choosing not to board the bus when all the seats are taken up. As such, some of these buses are half-filled when they depart the interchange.

"On his suggestion to deploy more bendy buses, we wish to clarify that there are bendy buses plying the service route.

"We would like to take this opportunity to encourage all commuters to board the bus so as to allow others the chance to take the service and also to help reduce the length of the queue.

"We thank STOMPer JX for his feedback."

I am there every morning. This bus travels from Tampines to Woodlands via stops at Yishun area. Once the seats are taken, commuters tend not to board because it is likely they have to stand all the way to Yishun...This is not an excuse that commuters don't board the bus...Of course the bus was not FULL, but what is the definition of FULL? standing untill rubbing shoulders? I am sure all the seats have been occupied.

I think that guy is talking cock. How many times have U ever seen anyone NOT going onto a bus when the bus seats are full? I have NEVER seen anyone not going onto a bus just because there aren't any seats. What a load of BS.
