Bus slowed to a crawl

I REFER to Saturday's letter by Mr Anthony Lee, "Slow bus speeds: What happened to efficiency?"
I had a similar experience when I was in a hurry to go home from Katong one Saturday. At first I was very happy when service 196 appeared soon after I got to the bus stop. The ride was smooth with no traffic jam and the bus moved at a regular speed.
However, once it passed the Clementi stadium, the bus suddenly slowed to a crawl. As there was no heavy traffic, I asked the driver why. He said he had to slow down as he was too early to arrive at the terminal.
Perhaps buses should display the times they are supposed to be back at their main destination so commuters can decide whether to take that bus or another one.
