KUALA LUMPUR: The army will investigate claims that the 11 trainees involved in the Sungai Udang mishap last year were tortured or mistreated.
Army chief Gen Datuk Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said the army looked at such allegations seriously.
'We will investigate the matter internally.
"It is such a serious allegation, " he told a press conference Tuesday.
He added actions would be taken if the allegations were true.
The Star reported last week that the trainee commandos were under probe over its training ordeal.
It is learnt that the military is following up on allegations that the trainees and their instructors attended a kenduri (thanksgiving feast) the same night they said they nearly drowned.
This is believed to be the first time that a boat has been reported missing during night training that the Sungai Udang Camp has been conducting for decades.
