A TAXI driver was robbed at knifepoint yesterday by three passengers - one of whom is believed to be a girl of 14.
The 57-year-old cabby had a penknife held to his throat after pulling over when one of his young passengers said she needed to be sick.
His assailants made off with $179 in cash from his shirt pocket. Two girls aged 14 and 17, and a man aged 20 have been arrested on suspicion of robbery. The driver had picked up his passengers along Tampines Street 21 at about 3am and was taking them to Changi Beach Club.
He pulled over on Cranewell Road to let the girl vomit. Moments later, the male passenger took out the penknife and held it against his neck. When the driver struggled, the two girls restrained him. The trio then fled on foot with the cash.
Police arrested three suspects after spotting them hiding in bushes in Netheravon Road at about 6.40am. The stolen cash was recovered from them and the penknife blade was also recovered from the scene.
Those convicted of armed robbery with hurt can be jailed for up to 20 years and given a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
