Armed robber jailed under Infectious Diseases Act

He had tested positive for the deadly HIV virus, but he didn’t tell his girlfriend – and they continued having sex for close to seven months.

It was only after he was arrested for armed robbery that he revealed that he had been having unprotected sex with his girlfriend, who was unaware of his condition.

This started a chain reaction that has thrown her into a world of uncertainty. Several government agencies were alerted even as he was hauled to court.

On Oct 2, John (not his real name) was jailed 18 months for having sex without first informing his partner that he was infected with HIV.
