Are you FeeLing the Heat. ..

its to do with the deforestation of singapore. it was recently reported that the average temperature difference between urban areas like town and forested ones like lim chu kang, has risen from an average difference of 3 deg to 7 deg in recent decades.

currently 29% of singapore is forested. masterplan 2030 will reduce it to 9%. in order to accomodate the 7m-10m figure that is being thrown around by the press.

vote wisely.

i totally agree. from where i stay, the mangrove and vegetation on both side of sungei serangoon are cleared for residential on one side and industrial buildings on the other side. with so many flats and condos built on the once green belt, the heat are being retain by the concrete resulting in higher temperature. And with so much land covered by concrete and bitmen, the rain water from storm are not being soak into the soil. The rainwater have no way to go but to concentrate onto the roads which will channel the raging torrents downward to low lying areas. it not so much the barrage cause "ponding" but water are not being soak into the ground fast enough due to lack of open ground.

your observations are spot on, but the powers that be will have you believe that its global warming and not local deforestation that is causing the problem.

too bad so few people give a shit about the environment that we live in.

1) Too many cars in Sillypore (air pollution)
2) Too many people in Sillypore (excessive oxygen intake and farting)
3) Too many trees felt in Sillypore (property development)
4) Too many concrete building in Sillypore (dissipate too much heart)

in a nutshell, not enough trees left in singapore.

its to do with the deforestation of singapore. ....

I noticed that they have been cutting down the trees around my neighbourhood. It's usually to build more buidings, roads,.... Other than increasing the temperature it's also causing the floods. Concrete cannot absorb rainwater.

good that you actually noticed. it's for the sake of the next generation that we should give more of a shit about the environment.

if our forested lands really get reduced from 29% (present) to 9% (master plan 2030), we will start to see 40 deg Celsius temperatures in the day time.
