My former classmate constantly blames external factors or other people for his problems instead of taking responsibility for his own actions. He often laments: "It is my boss's fault I got retrenched" or "My wife ruined my life by leaving me" rather than looking at what he is able to control. This friend persistently focuses on the negative aspects of life without any effort to change the situation. This is draining for both himself and those around him. Our other former classmates consider this guy a loser. What do you think?

When u have no money,u are considered a loser by your friends, even looked down by your family members.

absolutely. blaming others is a sure mark of a loser. whatever life throws at you, just deal with it. no one owes you a living.

That former classmate has a constant habit of measuring his own worth against other people like his ex-classmates, small circle of friends and former colleagues. This leads to feelings of inadequacy and envy which often results from seeking external validation rather than building internal self-worth.

This friend shows obvious signs of sour grapes by criticising his ex-classmates who live in private homes and own cars as show-offs.

This is like the scenario when former S'porean footballer Ben Davis scored for Thailand in a 5-0 thrashing of S'pore.

The reason our former classmate is exhibiting "sour grapes" is because most of his cohort are still gainfully employed in our mid-50s, living in private homes and own cars.

80% of the population here lives in HDB, and don't be too happy as I have family members around that age group who got retrenched as their companies sent their jobs to Malaysia

Please do not be mistaken. My ex-classmates who are still gainfully employed as professionals and senior management in our mid-50s know that we are prime candidates for the axe owing to both our age and high salaries. The entrepreneurs among us realise how volatile the business world is these days too.
