Does anyone here have these pts i understand that you need to pay some amount of money for every 1000 pts for like 1 year for ordinary member?

Krisflyer membership is free, all points earned are valid for 3 years.

Higher tier membership however requires U to earn enough points by actually flying hence frequent flyer. e.g. to go from normal -> Sliver Kris U need to fly 25000 miles in a year. Its about 5 trips to Beijing and back.

Almost all airlines work the same way, only difference is in the amount needed to reach the next tier and the benefits that comes with it

BTW if you are trying to earn points from Credit Card points, forget about it. You basically really need to fly a lot to make the points useful. . For example a round trip from SG to Bali is about 15000 points which translate to around 3 trips to and from Beijing(around 2700pts 1 way) to earn those points.

Assuming U get 1 credit card point for every $1.5 u spend, the Bali trip will cost you somewhere around $22500

Trips to Japan and Europe cost around 50K and 70K Krisflyer points respectively

Krisflyer points should be Free! Collect points when you travel on business trip, insist on flying SQ! And claim free flights, like bangkok... For your own leisure.

Consider it company's reward.

i have been carrying a krisflyer amex for the past 4 years. Used it to settle my hotel bills and other big ticket items when i was travelling for work. That plus the actual flight miles allowed me to claim a return trip to shanghai within the 1st year.

But i've stopped travelling so much for work these couple of years. Not enough new points to go anywhere I want, and the old points are starting to expire.

I guess the krisflyer program is great only if you are a frequent traveller.

The higher tier status actually helps to accummulate a lot of points. Sliver Kris gets 25% extra miles I think but U get knock back to square one if you don't fly for a year which was what happened to me when the company cut back on all projects and I only had like 2-3 trips last year.

Hi peeps I used to fly a lot like 7 yes back then hardly anymore. Imagine keeping krisflyer pts for 7 years without flying. I would have to pay s lot to keep them right? 70k pts btw

I'm not sure how U managed to keep your miles for 7 years, it expires in 3 yrs and if you pay to extend it, SQ allows extension for 1 time only(for maximum of 1 year). I'm guessing your miles have already expired a long time ago.

I don't see why you should be keeping the miles for so long. If U are saving up for a trip and you cant get enough miles in time, just get another one closer to home before the miles expire. But if you have 70K points U can just about fly anywhere in the world(economy class) why are you still keeping them? Don't waste money to extend it

Personally I claim my miles every year or at least once in 2 years. Dun wait until it expire

1. Only miles expiring in the current and next five months are available for extension.
2. Members may extend up to three consecutive months’ worth of miles per transaction.
3. Miles may only be extended once.
4. For KrisFlyer members, miles can only be extended by six months; for KrisFlyer Elite Silver, Elite Gold and PPS Club members, miles can be extended by one year.
5. Miles that have already expired cannot be extended.
6. The service fee for extending KrisFlyer Miles online is 1,200 miles or USD12 per 10,000 miles extended or part thereof.
