Businesses claim that they are short of staff. Yes, because these businesses are looking for staff:

1. who are willing to work for $1.5k per month
2. who are willing to work 10hrs a day
3. who have no NS liability

These businesses are looking for cheap labour and not staff.

We don't need such businesses which exploit its workers and can only survive with cheap labour. They are not competitive and deserve to close. The pap must be courageous and not give in to such businesses. Let them go and exploit resource rich countries like Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, etc. Singapore doesn't need such businesses

If businesses are efficient and very productive and are willing to pay high salaries, why would they want to locate in Singapore instead of in Switzerland, London, Zurich or San Francisco?

because they are not the best, cant compete in Swit, London, SF and were not welcome in such countries. now they find that SG is equally expensive. so they should just pack up and go to Laos

Exactly my point. The best businesses don't locate in Singapore. The country therefore has no choice but to encourage the 2nd echelon players to set up shop on the Island.

If they aren't welcome, then they will leave for Laos and other lower overhead locations. That will leave Singapore with nothing but GLCs.

that's my point too.

these not-the-best businesses cant compete in London. neither can they compete in SG. so they must leave London and leave SG. They must not moan that they cant get staff when they are willing to pay slavery wages

that's why I have always said that the pap has mismanaged SG. because the pap competes with Singaporeans in business, to help Temasek Holdings, they have priced land and buildings so expensive that businesses are dead. It's a matter of time before SG runs into big trouble

If they all leave, who is going to employ all the Singaporeans who cannot be absorbed by the civil service or the GLCs?

that will truly reflect on pap's performance.

let the true picture in SG surface now than to delay the inevitable

If the PAP is voted out in 2016 and a new government takes over and all the GLCs are privatised or closed, rents are lowered and HDB halves the selling price of its new flats, what is going to keep the country going?

what you admire abt SG is misplaced. what you see is just a façade presented by the pap. You have been deceived by the pap. Singaporeans know SG better than you do. SG is hollow

most of us are prepared and rather face up to reality and let a new govt run SG with its warts and all.

the longer the pap stays, the more damage it will do to SG.

better to let a new govt in and get to the bottom of SG's problems.

anyway...gtg now. cant stay to entertain you

From 1984 after the recession to so many cycles...I am hearing the same old thing?? remember a owner of the famous restaurant, during the Asian Financial crises , moan loudly about shortage of staff & condemn SINgaporeans for being choosy & do not want to work..

2013....same story...something is very wrong..what is MOM & the ministers had been doing?? they spend time, picking up discarded baby diapers & tampons, the 'ship' is again listing to one side...

Yes, agree, but margin better here, even compared with hk.

Good business will adapt and thrive. Bad business will close shop.
People will live and work better as there is more work-life balance.
People won't need to stress over housing as affordability returns.

Happy people are more productive ...productivity raises wages. A better sinkapore emerges!

Spore or rather the PAP will just have to learn how to live within their means. It will mean downsizing the gov't & all the GLCs & of course their pay.

While all those private firms always claimed that they are short of staffs, many of those GLCs and civil service sectors are over staffing all the time.

One good example is our Sillypore gahbrament.
Do we really need so many MPs in a GRC to run a constitution?
Do we need to have 5 PMs (old fart, woody, what you think teo, shiny head ah neh and pinky) to manage Sillypore?
Do we really need to pay them millions each year to "cho bo lan"?

If we want private firms to down size and operate in a cost effective environment, the Sillypore gahbrament must also follow by cutting back the number of MPs and also their pay. Sillypore gahbrament always do one thing and say another, double standard practicing.

So what are you going to do now? Wait till 2016? You ball-less sinkie.
