Apple's 'iPad Mini' to be unveiled Oct 23: report

Retina display how?
Look fucking great, better than Note2, LOL :D:D:D

did you look at the news, they replace your new ipad to ipad 4.
Just like they stop all support for my original ipad. Apple product life cycle is getting shorter and shorter.

no retina for ipad mini. yet cost more than the competition.

but the new macbook pro 13 with retina is pretty impressive.

Ha Ha,

Apple has finally managed to salvage enough obsolete components to assemble a cheapo mini pad!
Obsolete A5 processor ...
Obsolete camera @ 5MP
No Retina Display:*:
Only 512 MB RAM:confused:
Just to name a few!

One thing is definitely new - Lightning connector ... so that they can charged
you $ 40 for the adapter!

lol

It is a compelling reason for me to ditch my Kindle 4 for this iPad Mini, for Amazon had been giving me problems buying eBooks. I love the kindle, easy to hold & to read..I have another choice for it is easier to buy iBooks & sad to say iBooks have more choices than eBook, for example, Amazon does not have Kindle edition for Tom Plate book " conversation with Lee Kuan Yew", but iBooks have. The iPad mini is my Christmas present for myself this year..

Apple launches iPad mini

Apple has launched its new blockbuster product, an iPad mini, at a special event in California. The new mini tablet is being launched to fend off competition from a number of cheaper and smaller tablet computers, including Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

The new shrunken iPad has a 20 centimetre screen and is just 7.2 millimetres thick. It will be available in black and white and has a battery life of 10 hours. It will go on sale on November the 2nd and costs between 329 and 659 dollars.

The firm also revealed a new version of its larger iPad and a completely revamped Mac computer range. The new 4th generation original sized iPad has a faster chip, support for 4G networks and a new connector. The new Mac range will now include a new 33 centimetre Macbook with high definition Retina display, a Mac mini computer and an ultra thin iMac desktop computer.

Apple has always stood for change. They were the 1st to use SCSI, 1st to use the 3.5" floppy, USB, designer cases, Colored enclosures, the 1st to discontinue the floppy, .... .

It's call the bleeding edge of technology:o
Maybe that's why they are the market leader:)

Price list.

my original ipad is just a little more than 2 years old. i kept it in good condition. it is like brand new. Since when it is already outdated ?

Whatever it is, Apple is creating and selling popular and mass market products. Cost is a major consideration with this market. It is not selling Ferraris or Lamborghinis at very high specs, high prices and low volumes.

We can compare Apple to the BMW and Mercedes of the Auto world, mainstream products at premium prices. To justify the pricing, other than the brand, the uniqueness of its OS and way of doing things, they also need to stand out in the quality of its finishing and materials used, just like those BMWs and Mercs you see on the roads.

Do they know how to put in a retina display on the mini or the A6 CPU or a quad core? Of course they do. But doing any of these, in addition to the other things, finishing etc, unique to them, will price these products outside of the intended market place - the mass market.

Mind you, putting in a retina display is not just tagging on the incremental cost of a retina display panel but a need for application partners to re-design applications to a unique resolution for the mini that is different from a iPad2 and the new iPad.

To really move up to a retina display, they would need to go beyond even the 264 ppi of the new iPad to something like 340 ppi in order to use all the applications developed for the new IPad. To support this, the CPU has to be increased in power as well and so must the battery's Amph be increased to maintain the 10 hours usage time.

Do they need it? Not really as 40% reduction in screen area on the same resolution as the iPad makes it 30% higher in ppi than the older iPad 2. Will they do it? Yes, probably in the future when they master 340 ppi display as well as a higher power CPU and battery to go with it and keep all these costs down to a reasonable level. I don't see this coming within a year, the key part being the display and, surprisingly, the most basic part, the battery.

So your choice - get a BMW or Merc or get a Toyota or Kia? If you ask for 100m performance, they all can do it.

The reviews are in: Apple's latest iPad is a small wonder... but critics wonder if it's worth £269

Critics agree that Apple's new iPad mini looks and feels like the previous devices, but are shocked at the price
iPad mini has 7.9-inch screen and is 7.2mm thick
Will go on sale on November 2nd and cost from $329 to $659

The first reviews of the iPad mini have critics mostly fawning over Apple’s latest creation, but most agree that Apple’s competitors may have the edge due to the price tag.

The immediate first response of reviewers is the new iPad's weight, and how easily it fits in the hand - as demonstrated by Apple's Phil Schiller at the official unveiling on Tuesday.

Engadget said: 'Just as the bigger iPad, this one feels delightful in the hand.'

There is, however, concern that giftgivers this holiday season will go the cheaper route, and opt for the Google Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire to save a few bucks.

As Gizmodo's Eric Limer put it, ‘when you're worrying about money, the Nexus 7 is your best bet.'

The tech blog also sided with the Nexus 7 in terms of streaming movies and TV, storage and what is best for children.

Gizmodo does, however say the iPad mini is the better option for students looking for a good e-reader.

Technology Review noted that there is little to differentiate the mini from the other iPad models, and that anyone itching for an iPad would go for the mini because it’s not as expensive as the iPad 2 or the 4th generation retina display edition.

The company debuted the iPad mini on Tuesday, with a screen two-thirds smaller than the full model, and half the weight.

Customers can begin ordering the new model on Friday. In a surprise, Apple also revamped its flagship, full-sized iPad just six months after the launch of the latest model.

Apple's late founder Steve Jobs once ridiculed a small tablet from a competitor as a 'tweener' that was too big and too small to compete with either smartphones or tablets.

Now Apple's own Mini enters a growing small-tablet market dominated by Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle Fire.

Apple is charging $329 and up for the Mini - a price that fits into the Apple product lineup between the latest iPod Touch ($299) and the iPad 2 ($399).

Company watchers had been expecting Apple to price the iPad Mini at $250 to $300 to compete with the Kindle Fire, which starts at $159.
Name your price: The iPad mini is way more expensive than the competitors, but is it worth it?

Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook HD and Google Inc.'s Nexus 7 both start at $199.

'Apple had an opportunity to step on the throat of Amazon and and Google yet decided to rely on its brand and focus on margin,' said Bill Kreher, an analyst with brokerage Edward Jones.

Apple has sold more than 100 million iPads since April 2010. Analysts expect Apple to sell 5 million to 10 million iPad minis before the year is out.

Apple will start taking orders for the new model on Friday, said marketing chief Phil Schiller in San Jose. Wi-Fi-only models will ship on November 2.

Later, the company will add models capable of accessing 'LTE' wireless data networks.

When pre-orders start on Oct. 26, the iPad Mini will be competing for the attention of gadget shoppers with the release of Windows 8, Microsoft's new operating system.

The screen of the iPad Mini is 7.9 inches on the diagonal, making it larger than the 7-inch screens of the competitors.

It also sports two cameras, on the front and on the back, which the competitors don't.

The iPad mini is as thin as a pencil and weighs 0.68 pounds, half as much as the full-size iPad with its 9.7-inch screen, Schiller said.

The screen resolution is 1024 by 768 pixels, the same as the iPad 2 and a quarter of the resolution of the flagship iPad, which starts at $499.

The new model has better apps and is easier to use than competitors like Google's Nexus, said Avi Greengart, a consumer electronics analyst with Current Analysis.

'This really is not in the same category as some of the other 7-inch tablets,' he said. 'And that's before you consider that it has a premium design - it's made of metal that's extremely lightweight.'

Jobs attacked the whole idea of smaller tablets in his last appearance on a conference call with analysts in October 2010.

'The reason we wouldn't make a 7-inch tablet isn't because we don't want to hit a price point. It's because we don't think you can make a great tablet with a 7-inch screen,' Jobs said.

'The 7-inch tablets are tweeners, too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with an iPad.'

Job's chief objection was that a smaller screen would make it hard to hit buttons on the screen with the fingers - never mind that Apple's iPhone, with an even smaller screen, was already a hit at the time.

Apple senior vice president Eddy Cue started working on changing Jobs' mind.

In an email sent to other Apple managers in January 2011, Cue said the CEO had started warming to the idea of a smaller tablet.

Apple's Phil Schiller reveals the iPad pricing for the US

Company watchers have been expecting the iPad Mini for a year and most of the details, except the price, had leaked out.

Apple also said it's upgrading its full-size iPad, doubling the speed of the processor. Previously, the company has updated the iPad once a year.

The fourth-generation iPad will have a better camera and work on more 'LTE' wireless data networks around the world.

Apple is also replacing the 30-pin dock connector with the new, smaller "Lightning" connector introduced with the iPhone 5 a month ago.

The price of the new full-size model stays the same as the previous version, starting at $499 for a Wi-Fi-only version with 16 gigabytes of memory.

At S$448 for the mini...I am biting my tongue!, maybe I look into the Christmas Stocking after Midnight on December 25 & see if Santa left me one - iPad mini..looks like I still have to fight "guerrilla" warfare with Amazon for purchases of eBooks in the meantime...& bear with some titles I can not get!. damn!

I'll buy one if it has a 3 or 4G. It will be a perfect companion for showing off my photos to potential clients. The iPod is too small to do justice to the images and the current iPad is too big to carry around all the time.

An iPad Mini will be just perfect.

It has 4G.

They said iPad4 was launched last night also?

Faster processor, the rest same?

Lightning connector but sim card still micro sim. So if you are sharing a sim card with your iPhone 5, problem unless you use a cradle.

The reviews are in: Apple's latest iPad is a small wonder... but critics wonder if it's worth £269....

I made the mistake of underestimating Apple back when the original Bondi blue iMac was introduced:o I didn't think that a colorful , non-expandable, floppy less drive would sell well. That iMac went on to sell very, very, very well:D I also didn't think the iPod would do well:o

I've learned to reserve judgement where Apple is concern & to wait until I see the actual financial results. :)
It will probably not sell well enough to silence ALL the critics.

This is only version 1.0 of the iPad mini & they probably can't make enough of it. Don't forget that Apple is having problems meeting demand of the iPads & iPhones.

When they do get the things sorted out, they can always tweak the feature set, price point, etc ... in version 2.0 of the iPad mini.

ipad mini uses nano sim form factor. there's no ipad4. the new ipad is renamed as ipad with retina display.

Just because Apple introduces new models doesn't make your hardware obsolete. Of course Apple has to keep introducing new models. If they don't, they 'll soon be out of business.

I have/had plenty of old Apple hardware.
My iBook lasted me 8 years until it finally broke down.
I'm still using my 1st generation iPod.
I've got plenty of other obsolete PCs/Macs in storage e.g. Mac Plus, Mac Classic, Quadra 800, etc

No matter what hardware you purchase a PC, Mac, Android, iPhone,... it will eventually get obsolete. This is a fact with all consumer electonics :(.

that kind of answer tell me that you do not own any of apple product with ios. If you do not know what you are talking, shut the fxxk up.
An ios that does not have latest ios update, cannot download new apps, cannot use youtube, cannot use maps, cannot use shit all in a few months time, when all the apps upgrade to latest ios.
