Let's look at posts like this

Contrary to the hype, Singapore is actually quite a racist country, albeit in more subtle ways. Also, if you're an ethnic Chinese, you won't feel it that much, as you're part of the majority (for now).

Racism is everywhere in this world. Deal with it. Highlighting the perceived flaws of other countries to make Singapore look comparatively good ('PAP govt did a brilliant job, we are blessed and thus must be grateful and count our blessings and not complain so much') is highly asinine.

That's my point exactly. The majority race does not notice the racism until they move somewhere else where they become the minority.

All right can we show some evidence by posting some incidents? I think we need to follow the rules.

Firstly i am sure the perpertrator of the racist act has to be chinese and not of another race so if a malay called an indian a racist name or a chinese a racist name it's not counted so only a chinese can be racist for singapore to be a racist country right? Anyone wants to add on.

Now sam claims the majority does not notice the racism. Ok so assuming he is a minority can he speak from the perspective of a minority and give some examples after all in the thread about racism of a minority in NZ he gave so many examples let sam and laksa gave a total of 0 examples of racism in singaopore by chinese ppl towards minorities.

You define racism in very narrow terms. To you, racism is when you go up to someone of a different race, call him/her racist names and spit in his/her face.

But racism is far wider than these sorts of incidents. Racism is when decisions/policies are made based upon skin color.

When a company specifies "Pinoy Sales Assistants", that's racism.

Ok that's good. BUT why isn't that actually a moot point unlike the NZ racism post? Cos it isn't aggressive and committed by individuals which is the worst form of racism. A hostile person making racist remarks is 100x times more offensive than some ad in the papers but i see your point.

BTW do you feel that racism that discriminates chinese is more acceptable than the opposite? I am tell you many ppl feel the former is ok.

All racism is equally bad.

A hostile racist is more "in your face" but it does not affect career, earning capacity etc as these are isolated incidents by people who don't matter.

Institutionalised racism has more long term consequences.

Ah Tiongs, Ah Nehs and Pinoys are the preferred race in sinkapore. Sinkees are despised by the Government and employers. Racism is the national policy of the PAP government.

If you want to use that then a Chinese Zealander has a dog's hell chance to be pm of a country cos of his race that's institutionalized racism to me.

Not necessarily true though. You can legislate for anti-racism laws but whether it is effective is a different story. An interviewer can simply throw your resume into the bin because you aren't of a particular race but he's not going to tell you so, he would just make up some bullshit excuse.

There was a story on the BBC some time ago about how they got some people to pose as immigrants and went undercover into a housing agency in a city in Britain. When they asked to rent this or that place, the agents simply gave them some excuse by saying it was already taken, under offer, etc. But when they got a white guy to go in, the agent said," When are you free to view the place?"

Even if you could not discriminate on the basis of race in housing in Britain, apparently this practice was quite widespread. It's hard to prosecute too.

Yes but you notice when ppl talk of incidents of racism they aren't talking of matters like this but rather personal insulting incidents. You notice how sam changes it tries to compare apples with oranges. This type of racism as in not letting ppl of a particular race applies to everyone. Some indians and m&ds won't rent to ppl of another race but let's leave that aside just talk of in your face racist incidents which is what it's all about the sam had to change it because it just doesn't occur in singapore.

Your Ah Tiong friends are the same race as you.
