The man, who already has two wives, is said to be a self-proclaimed imam at his village in Gua Musang, Kelantan.
image: https://content.thestar.com.my/smg/settag/name=lotame/tags=all
His children are aged between five and 18.
The young bride, who has never been to school, is a friend of one of the man’s children.
The underage girl is said to have given her “consent” to the marriage after the man voiced his intention to her parents about marrying her.
It is learnt that her parents, who live in Gua Musang, are rubber tappers. Her father apparently is an employee of the man.
The parents agreed to the marriage but imposed a “condition” that their daughter would only be allowed to live with the “husband” when she turns 16.
The case became a hot topic when the 34-year-old second wife of the man posted photographs of him and the girl and their alleged solemnisation ceremony.
She captioned the picture: “Selamat pengantin baru suamiku. Suami 41, maduku 11 (Congratulations on your wedding, my husband, 41, his other wife, 11).”
It is learnt that she resorted to social media after her husband blocked all communication with both his wives.
She deleted the post after it went viral and said in another post that she had referred the matter to the courts, the ustaz and the Welfare Department.
She also said that a wedding was not a joke.
The man had earlier denied everything when his second wife showed him the photographs, saying that the images were doctored.
He only admitted after she pressed him further.
When contacted, the second wife said she had heard talk that her husband would marry again but he had assured both wives that he would never marry a child.
“I never expected this to actually happen. If he marries a woman and not a child, I can accept it. I even tried to match-make him with another woman but he declined.
“What angers me is he married my child’s friend,” she said, adding that she wanted a divorce as she could not stand her husband anymore.
She claimed that her husband had told them that if they could not accept the third wife, the best solution was to split up.
“There is no use for this marriage to go on. I will go to the religious office tomorrow (today).
“We’ve tried calling and texting him to settle our relationship but he’s not answering,” she claimed.
She also said her 10-year-old son sent a message to his father, asking why he married the 11-year-old.
The man supposedly began “dating” the girl in March.
The second wife also said she was tired of shouldering the responsibilities of having to earn money and raising their four children.
“Have you ever celebrated Hari Raya with our family? Have you ever taken our kids out?” she wrote.
His first wife, 41, is said to have received the photographs of the marriage solemnisation several days ago and forwarded them to the second wife.
“I don’t blame the girl, I blame our husband,” the second wife said.
She also posted a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation of the first wife’s child and the 11-year-old girl who had apparently confronted her about the marriage.
The girl said: “Your father is crazy about me. I’m not ‘hungry’.”

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — Islamist Opposition party PAS said it will not take part in the still unannounced Port Dickson by-election as it was against the intentional vacancy forced for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest.

The party said this was decided by the party’s central committee in a meeting chaired by president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang yesterday.

“The decision was made because PAS feels intentionally forced by-elections are not good democratic practices as they waste public funds and inconvenience the public,” it said in a statement today.

“Consequently, PAS has decided it will support any other Opposition party that plans to contest, be it Umno or even MIC.”

First Admiral (Rtd) Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah resigned as Port Dickson MP yesterday to create a vacancy for Anwar to contest as part of his bid to return to active politics.

This is the third time PAS is skipping a by-election in favour of Barisan Nasional parties, after it sat out the Balakong and Sungai Kandis polls that MCA and Umno lost, respectively.

Is Anwar Ibrahim on his way back, or will Malaysia's change experiment fail?
PM BY LINDA MOTTRAM

AP: VINCENT THIAN
By one starry-eyed estimation, Anwar Ibrahim is "the Nelson Mandela of Malaysia".

Now, the long-time opposition leader, freed from jail after his party's coalition won last May's elections, is set to make a return to Malaysia's Parliament.

And later, if a deal with current Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad holds, Anwar could soon ascend to the country's top job.

Mahathir's unlikely ally

Once the most bitter of foes, the incoming Malaysian PM pledges to seek a pardon for his former deputy, who he had jailed for corruption and sodomy in the 1990s, and even allow him to take over the top job within two years, writes Anne Barker.
"Mr Anwar Ibrahim is now running for a Parliamentary seat," explained Ei Sun Oh, a former Malaysian prime ministerial adviser and Nanyang University of Singapore adjunct fellow.

The Parliamentary seat Anwar will contest has been won by the governing People's Justice Party coalition with a comfortable majority.

It has been vacated this week by a retiring MP (the one who invoked the Mandela comparison).

"And that in theory should qualify him later on, if he gets elected, to become the next Prime Minister of Malaysia," Ei Sun Oh told PM.

Of course there are often differing opinions within a ruling party about who should lead, Dr Oh said, pointing to Australia's recent leadership turmoil.

"But if everything goes smoothly, yes, he should be Malaysia's next prime minister."

Anwar Ibrahim and Mahathir Mohamad speak in court while others look on.
PHOTO Dr Mahathir met former ally Anwar Ibrahim in court on September 5, 2016, where he supported Ibrahim's bid to stop the Malaysian government from enforcing the newly-passed National Security Council Act.
SUPPLIED: NAJWAN HALIMI
There is a pact within the ruling coalition led by Dr Mahathir that he will pass on the premiership to Anwar Ibrahim after two years.

"But Malaysian politics is sometimes very unpredictable," Dr Oh said.

And there are some rumblings of dissatisfaction within the Coalition about the attempt to parachute Anwar into the seat.

One party activist, lawyer Siti Kasim, has used social media to call on voters to reject the move, asking, does Anwar's family think they can "do whatever they like at our expense?"

"Nope!" she replied to her own query on Instagram.

Economic headwinds
The political machinations are taking place in an already tumultuous year.

Malaysia is facing significant economic headwinds and unpredictable fallout from investigations into the multi-billion-dollar 1MDB embezzlement scandal.

Political instability would be unwelcome in the current economic climate.

Malaysia is no basket case economy, but the list of challenges is not insignificant.

In his first 100 days, despite mounting foreign debt and the slowest economic growth in a year, Dr Mahathir dumped an unpopular goods and services tax and introduced costly petrol subsidies.

High oil prices are providing some financial respite, but Malaysia is forecast in coming years to shift from being a net oil exporter to a net importer.

So the goal is more foreign investment.

But Dr Mahathir has caused some market jitters by questioning the value to Malaysia of big Chinese infrastructure projects.

"The Malaysian government is not totally averse to construction of gigantic infrastructure like high-speed rail and so on," Dr Oh said.

"It's just that at the moment we simply cannot afford it because our foreign debt is mounting and a priority would be to lower those foreign debts because there are lessons from other countries, Turkey, Argentina, to name just a few."

Dr Mahathir has welcomed the Chinese company Alibaba setting up regional headquarters in Malaysia, but he has cancelled a number of big infrastructure projects.

"It's time for China to learn a bit from this sort of lesson, that in some other countries perhaps the China model of development would need some adjustment," Dr Oh said.

More pointers to the government's priorities are expected with its first budget, expected in late October.

Where's the money?
Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak.

REUTERS: OLIVIA HARRIS, FILE
In the meantime, the financial scandal that saw billions of dollars embezzled from the country's sovereign wealth fund, known as 1MDB, and sees investigations stretching from New York to Singapore, could yet embroil dozens of politicians and have any number of unforeseen implications.

Malaysian investigators said this week that up to 50 politicians may have accepted stolen money in the scandal.

Already, multiple charges of corruption, abuse of power and money laundering have been laid against former prime minister Najib Razak, who denies culpability.

In a sensational twist, the lawyer defending Dr Najib against those charges has himself now been charged in the scandal, pleading not guilty to two counts of money laundering.

Dr Mahathir has a goal of recouping $6.25 billion of funds thought to have been lost through 1MDB.

Malaysia is attempting to sell a $347 million yacht bought with stolen funds, and to have returned to Malaysia a $49 million jet parked in Singapore.

Singapore has ordered the transfer of $15.27 million of funds in various currencies to a special 1MDB recovery bank account, a tiny portion of the fraction of more than $277 million that Singapore police have seized from bank accounts and properties linked to 1MDB.

What next?
If Anwar Ibrahim were to take the reins again, his priority would also be to revive Malaysia's economy, said Dr Oh.

But so far, he says, we have not seen a coherent or comprehensive economic policy from the new government.

He thinks if the economy does not improve in the next few years, there could be a rise in nationalism.

Sectarian issues, which were also exploited under Najib Razak, are also a perennial issue in Malaysia, according to Dr Oh.

He says the result of the election demonstrates to the world that when people are fed up with corruption, they will unite, despite multicultural differences, to overthrow that government.

"But in some of the more remote constituencies in Malaysia, sectarian communal concerns like supremacy of one race or religion are still very pertinent — if we are not careful, they could be revived in no time," he warned.

"The previous ruling party could indeed be voted back to power, and they would hoard power like nobody's business."

PORT DICKSON, Negeri Sembilan: A total of seven candidates, including Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Anwar Ibrahim and his former personal aide Saiful Bukhari, will contest in the Port Dickson by-election after they successfully submitted their nomination papers on Saturday morning (Sep 29).

The appearances of Anwar and Saiful were the highlight of a tense morning, after it was reported just hours earlier that the latter had announced his intention to campaign as an independent candidate.

Saiful accused Anwar of sodomising him without consent in 2008, and this later led to Anwar being jailed in 2015 on sodomy charges - allegations he maintains are politically motivated.

Anwar was released from prison in May 2018 after he was granted a pardon by the king, days after the Pakatan Harapan coalition won in Malaysia’s General Election.
Besides the pair, Parti Islam Se-Malaysia's (PAS) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar will also campaign for votes for the parliamentary seat.

Meanwhile, former UMNO vice-president Isa Abdul Samad, social media personality Stevie Chan, Lau Seck Yan and Kan Chee Yuen will contest as independent candidates.

The Port Dickson parliamentary seat was vacated in September by PKR's Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, a retired navy Rear Admiral, who resigned to pave the way for Anwar to contest the seat and re-enter parliament.
Anwar is set to be appointed Malaysia’s prime minister in two years, and this election is his first official step in returning to Malaysian politics.
The seven candidates will campaign for two weeks from Saturday until polling day on Oct 13.

PORT DICKSON: Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan was calm and collected as he sat outside the Port Dickson by-election nomination centre on Saturday (Sep 29) morning.

He was just metres away from Parti Keadilan Rakyat president-elect Anwar Ibrahim, the man Saiful accused of sodomising him in 2008 when he served as Anwar’s personal aide.

“I can’t wait to see him inside (the nomination centre). It’s been a long time since I met him,” said Saiful.
Following Saiful’s allegations a decade ago, Anwar was imprisoned in 2015 and was unable to contest in the general election in May.
However, he was released from jail in May 2018, when he was pardoned by Malaysia’s Yang di Pertuan Agung days after the Pakatan Harapan coalition led by Mahathir Mohamad won the general election.

When pressed by reporters on why he wanted to contest the Port Dickson seat, Saiful said that he would not bring up their past controversies in his campaign.
“This is not about vengeance, this is not about revenge. This is purely me entering the democratic process in Malaysia,” said Saiful.
The 33-year-old added that he wanted to run in Port Dickson because it used to be his “playground” as a child.
“I want to be in parliament. When I was a child, PD used to be the place for me. Of course I love PD, that’s why I am contesting for the seat,” said Saiful.
SAIFUL WAS MALICIOUS IN THE PAST: ANWAR
Inside the nomination centre - the Port Dickson Municipal Council building - Anwar and Saiful exchanged a brief handshake as they each submitted their documents.

The situation became slightly tense when, while waiting for the official announcement, Saiful took a seat beside Anwar at one of the round tables for candidates.

Anwar and Saiful exchanged a few brief words before the former stood up and sat at the front of the hall.

When the candidates were officially announced, Saiful’s name was met with a loud ring of boos from Anwar’s supporters outside the nomination centre.

When asked about this during his press conference afterwards, Anwar said: “I will advise them of course but you can also appreciate the malicious effort on his (Saiful’s) part in the past.

“It’s easier to say for me to forgive and move on but I think you also have to appreciate the concern from many who are deeply hurt and suffered in the process,” he added.
PKR INCUMBENT BETRAYED TRUST OF LOCALS: STEVIE CHAN
Speaking to reporters after the nominations were announced, independent candidate Stevie Chan told reporters that the incumbent Member of Parliament for Port Dickson, PKR's Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, should never have had to make way for Anwar.
Danyal, a retired navy Rear Admiral, resigned in September to pave the way for Anwar to contest the seat and re-enter parliament.
Commenting on the move, Chan said: “You (Danyal) won the seat with a 17,000 majority... Regardless of the reason behind that huge majority ... the mandate was given to you for five years. Why people go to vote is an expression of your value system, the vision for this country and all those things.

image: data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==

"And four months down the road, you give it up ... For what? Because your friend wants to be the PM? You’re betraying the trust of the local people,” said Chan.
But Anwar told reporters that becoming prime minister was not the point of this by-election.

“In these elections, we want a mandate to support the Pakatan Harapan government under Tun Mahathir as prime minister and for me to function effectively as a Member of Parliament for Port Dickson,” said Anwar.

Besides Anwar, Saiful and Chan, PAS candidate Mohd Nazari Mokhtar, independent candidates Isa Abdul Samad, Lau Seck Yan and Kan Chee Yuen were also confirmed as challenges for the parliamentary seat.

The seven candidates will campaign for two weeks from Saturday until polling day on Oct 13.

How come the one that got sodomized never go to jail? Since the convictions are overturned...it means this saiful made a false accusation and should be in jail. So how can this criminal stand for erection?
