Chitchat Anwar Orders Party Cadre To Resign As MP So That He Himself Can Take Over Port Dick!

PORT DICKSON: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president-elect Anwar Ibrahim will contest the Port Dickson seat in a by-election, it was announced on Wednesday (Sep 12).

Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, the current member of parliament for Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan, announced at a news conference he will vacate his seat, paving the way for Anwar's return to Malaysia's parliament.

"I am confident that Yang Berbahagia Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim will win the seat - hands down - and proceed to become the next member of parliament for Port Dickson. And eventually become our nation's eighth prime minister," Danyal said.

"Hence, I am now announcing my resignation as a member of the House of Representatives in the Malaysian parliament with immediate effect."

Present at the press conference were PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution, vice-president Rafizi Ramli, Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul and Wangsa Maju MP Tan Yee Kew.

Saifuddin told the press that he was instructed by Anwar himself to make the announcement. He said that Anwar, who is currently in Hong Kong, had already informed Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad about the decision.


Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, Home Affairs Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu have expressed support over the party's decision, Saifuddin said.

Saifuddin added that the party has begun the process for Anwar to return to parliament. He also said that Anwar will not hold any government post if he wins the by-election and will focus on parliamentary reform.

In the coming by-election, Anwar will contend with a potential UMNO-PAS alliance.

"There is no indication that the voting pattern from last general election is going to be reversed," said Rafizi.

"I am sure Anwar Ibrahim, as the (future) prime minister, would inject more excitement on the ground and hopefully we would be able to garner interest to achieve the voter turnout that we want."

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah has maintained that despite his exit as Port Dickson MP, he will still be there to assist incoming PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in serving the people.

“I’m confident that Anwar will win the seat and will proceed as the next MP for Port Dickson and become our 8th prime minister.

“I’m now announcing my resignation with immediate effect, and I’ve sent my resignation letter to the Parliament Speaker Wednesday (Sept 12).

When pressed by reporters over his reason to vacate the seat, Danyal's reply was: “I’m not vacating this seat out of enjoyment... I will continue to serve the people of Port Dickson. He (Anwar) was a bit reluctant initially, but I said I will continue to serve and all I need is your support.

“I’m not quitting my people. I will stay on in Port Dickson and I will be Anwar’s eyes and ears on the ground.

Meanwhile, party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail also said that no compensation was offered to Danyal in return for the seat.

“There is none. That is the beauty of being a PKR member, we don’t have to worry about that,” he said.

“In fact, when Rafizi vacated the Pandan seat for Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, there is no compensation and he is a poor man now,” he quipped.

It was earlier announced that Anwar would contest the Port Dickson seat in Negri Sembilan to pave the way for his return to Parliament.

SEREMBAN: A local should be fielded against PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the soon-to-be-held by-election in Port Dickson.

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said a local would be able to put up a good fight against Anwar compared to an outsider.

"My personal opinion is that a local should be fielded.

"But the final decision has to come from the Barisan Nasional supreme council," he said.

Mohamad was asked to comment on talk that he was the best candidate for Barisan to fight Anwar in Port Dickson.

To this, Mohamad said he would have to prepare for a by-election in Rantau if the court decides in favour of a petition filed by PKR's candidate for the seat in the May 9 polls Dr. S. Streram.

Dr. Streram filed the petition after the Election Commission (EC) refused to allow him to file his nomination papers on April 28.

The EC then declared Mohamad, who was the sole candidate, as the winner.

Mohamad said it would also be up to Barisan if it wished to field a candidate in the Port Dickson by-election.

"We will also discuss this with the state Barisan before making a final decision," he added.

On Wednesday (Sept 12), PKR announced that Anwar would stand in Port Dickson after its incumbent MP Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah said he would quit the parliamentary seat.
