Mystery surrounds shock death of part-time student

26-year-old Tan Songchun was a healthy part-time student at Singapore Institute of Management.
When he returned from work and went into his room at his parents’ home in Sengkang to take a nap on Tuesday night, his parents did not expect that it would be the last time they saw him alive.
Tan’s mother told Shin Min News Daily that he had complained of feeling tired and decided to take a nap before dinner. When she checked on him at 11pm, Tan was found dead, with his mouth was slightly open and a pool of vomit beside him.
According to the paper, paramedics believe Tan had been dead for at least an hour before he was discovered.
His 55-year-old father told the Chinese daily that Tan was a filial son. Since both he and his wife are odd-job workers, Tan had taken a job to pay for his school fees and help support his family.
A doctor interviewed by the same paper said that there could be many reasons why Tan vomitted, including heart and digestive problems, or even a head injury. The doctor, however, dismissed the possibility that the vomit caused Tan to choke in his sleep.
