Tiger Airways names new MD
Posted: 10 November 2010 1454 hrs

SINGAPORE: Budget carrier Tiger Airways will have a new man at the helm of its Singapore unit.

The airline said on Wednesday that it has appointed Stewart Adams as the new managing director of Tiger Airways Singapore.

Mr Adams will take over from Rosalynn Tay in January 2011.

A veteran with 34 years of aviation experience, Mr Adams was most recently the managing director of British regional airline, bmi Regional.

Tiger said Mr Adams managed the profitable growth of bmi Regional, which is the UK's most punctual airline, into an extensive European network.

Group CEO and president of Tiger Airways Tony Davis said Mr Adams joins the company at an important stage in the airline's growth.

He also thanked Ms Tay for her "invaluable contributions to Tiger Airways over the past five years".

Ms Tay will pursue opportunities outside of Tiger.

If Stewart Adams can make Tiger Airways flights more reliable, efficient and cheap, it is good for the company.

Given all the complaints about Tiger, this is no surprise. IT's got nothing to do with local or foreigner. Only xenophobe feel that way

First CEO should go for this mess...running a budget airlines is very tough unless you know what is happening on ground. Sitting in a fancy office and flying first class on SQ while running Tiger is jot the way to run a airlines. Next year Tiger will go belly up and will be up for sale. This CEO needs to recruit people from Air Asia.

I have really no sympathy for SINgapore workers in general, they have an inept attitude towards their own rice bowls. Some twenty years ago, after the recession I had pointed out to my SINgaporean colleagues on the danger of importing foreign workers into SINgapore to compete & take away our jobs, they could not be bothered & called me a habringer of bad tidings.

At that time, it was the Malaysians, who came here in droves & the labour unions, just close an eye to it, despite getting feedback from the concerns of the workers from the local unions. The 'better' part of it , you complain, protest too much; they mark that labour representative(s)...

The SINgapore workers could not be bothere, they were bothered if their 'member' card could get them discount at the supermarkets...

From the Malaysians slowly came the the Filipinoes....and soon the floogates were opened.

The SINgapore workers genrally...deserve it!..so stop whinning, complaining about loosing your jobs to foreigners, do something about it!

The senior management rice bowls is protected and that resulted the working class had to be sacifice for the sake of those highly paid managers.

The culture in our society is to protect the interest of senior managers with hiring powers and do the working class play a part in any decision making process.

Not only the senior managment, the government was not interested in protecting the people of SINgapore, especially the workers, the labour laws are slanted in favour of the employers.

There is no national policy of employ SINgaporeans first, & all hiring positions must be in the hands of SINgaporeans.

There must be a hire SINgaporeans first policy...if not the SINgapore pledge is a joke...

I understand what you are trying to say....

In my personal view, the employers itself do have a choice as to hire sinkies or foreigners.
But in working class level they choose to hire foreigners. Why ?

Some FTs are even much higher paid that sinkies.
