A 68-year-old retiree lost $200,000 after he sold his flat to marry a 28-year-old Indonesian woman who later disappeared.

He had given her the money to buy a house, a car and start a new business. However, the woman sold everything within six months and disappeared.

Former security guard Jacky Yan now lives on the streets.

Lianhe Wanbao reported that Mr Yan first met his wife in a bar more than a year ago while he was holidaying in Tanjung Balai, Indonesia.

The couple fell in love and registered their marriage half a year later. He then sold his flat at Block 418, Fajar Road, with the intention of moving to her home country.

When interviewed, Mr Yan said he received more than $200,000 from selling his house. He then used his wife's name to buy a two-storey shop unit, a terrace house, a car and a motorcycle.

He opened an Internet cafe on the lower floor of the shop unit and converted the upper floor into guest houses.

After moving to Indonesia, Mr Yan had to return to Singapore every month to settle administrative issues with his Indonesian visa.

However, in May this year, he realised his wife had disappeared and that the locks to the shop and home had been changed.

After asking around, he was shocked to hear that his wife had sold everything and gone missing.

He has not found his wife after searching for half a year, nor has he received any messages from her.

Mr Yan has also not been able to recover the money.

Couldn't help noticing that more & more of these stories are being reported by the shit press, if one connect the dots, one can faintly see the picture. The moral of the story, Singaporeans of lower education status & Singaporeans are not able to look after their life savings, wether it is their HDB flats, other properties or the biggest one of all C.P.F. They must allow the government to help them & keep their money with them till they are say around 85, in the meanwhile, they can withdarw in small bits!.

That is the picture, if you connect the dots.:D

This type of standard 1 night less than $100 in batam. Go Balai even cheaper. 200k can do until end of his life Liao. Everyday can change different one some more. Stupid ah pek.

It is a mismatch here, this case is not of poverty, remember he had S$200,000, he spurge on a 'hole' & now his pockets, burnt a big HOLE. That is his fault, nothing to do with poverty.;)

I don't pity him at all, really! More like asking for trouble or his grey matter is malfunction....bloody blur fuck!

Yes you are right, with stories like these, PAP will use the excuse to prevent us from drawing on the CPF..and this is commonsense hor,,never trust a woman with your money,,no matter what,,always control your money and not let others control it for u,,,singaporeans will be more screwed with more news like that coming out,,,and yes 200K can play in indo for a long time man,,buy house etc for what??? can change gal everynight also,,,

I think retirees need to have hobbies,,go indon can play golf till die man with that sort of money,,give to wife,,ass hole, will now make it worse for the rest of us..

Marriage has always been a business transaction. It has never been about love.

If you don't believe this, try proposing when you are jobless.

This particular business transaction was made worse by the old man's foolishness.

Do you honestly think a woman 40 years your junior will want to marry you for that so-called love?

200K SGD may be peanuts to some of us, but it is a hell lot of money to a fugly broad from a third-world country.
