JOHOR BARU - A SINGAPOREAN motorist who tried to bribe a Malaysian traffic policeman after being caught speeding has been jailed for a day and fined RM10,000 (S$4,300).

Bus driver Tay Soon Chuan, 42, tried to bribe a constable with RM50 after he was stopped along the Lima Kedai-Nusajaya Highway on May 30.

He is the latest Singapore motorist to be dealt with for trying to bribe Malaysian traffic policemen.

Last month, a Singaporean businessman who tried to pay a RM100 bribe was also jailed for a day and fined RM15,000.

Ong Peoy Kuan, 61, was caught on May 30 - the same day as Tay - and also offered money to a policeman after being stopped near the Lima Kedai toll plaza.

In May, at least eight Singaporeans were caught trying to bribe Malaysian traffic policemen.
