Why do they insist on speaking hindi, tamil, tagalog etc to each other in the workplace within full earshot of everyone?

Dont they realise its rude and comes off as borderline conspiratorial......its not as if they cant speak english.

Ive had to tell off a couple in a meeting as they broke off to chatter in their own language.

I wish more workplaces would make it a rule to speak english in the workplace for FTs.

Maybe their grasp of english is not that strong. Thats why they need to resort to speaking in their native languages

Do you think the rule would even be enforced? What are the punishments if one breaks them?

With the bo chup type of work environment in sinkie companies you think they would even bother to enforce the rules if such a ruling was set and it won't btw.

Singapore in the early years was famous for its campaigns. A campaign targeted at FTs is timely it will speed up integration. Unfortunately this Govt will touch them preferring to find fault with locals. Remember the curry case where the local Indian family agreed to cook curry on certain days so the FT family will stop complaining to their MP. And an Indian cabinet minister endorsed it. Morons.

Angmohs insist of speak and write English so why care they speak their own. Go with the flow and speak your dialect and when order them to do things speak English.

Well they are the majority and so one must make allowances for that.....but even then, many are quite sensitive to mixed company and will use english.....except those who reallly arent comfortable speaking fluently in english.

White collar fts all speak english, yet persist on clicque forming behaviour. Its not something you need a campaign for....its basic common sense....when in rome etc etc.
