SINGAPORE: Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong is in the midst of setting up a WeCare Community Action Network centre in his Marine Parade ward.
Writing in his Facebook post on Monday, Mr Goh said the centre will provide free 'concierge' service to needy residents and will be client-centric rather than provider-centric.
He noted that the Marine Parade ward has a number of physically disabled elderly and a high number of residents aged 65 and above.
As such, Mr Goh thought there is a need for a Senior Activity Centre and a rehabilitation centre.
Marine Parade ward currently has a GoodLife Wellness Centre for seniors, a Family Service Centre and the Foo Hai Lodge which is a day care centre for the elderly.
Mr Goh also noted a need to care for the special needs children and the poor in the community.
"Hence my walk yesterday to recce potential sites for new social service centres," he wrote.
