Boeing’s stock price is flirting with setting a one-day decline record on 11 February after a morning news report linked the company to a fraud investigation.
The Bloomberg news report cited anonymous sources saying the US Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating Boeing’s programme accounting methods on the 787 and 747-8.
Boeing executives “typically do not comment on media inquiries of this nature”, a spokesman says.
By mid-afternoon, Boeing’s stock price was trading around 7-9% lower and around $105-$106 each.
If the stock doesn’t stay above $106 per share by evening, Boeing could record the worst one-day drop of market capitalisation in the company’s 100-year history.
The 11 February decline comes only two weeks after an 8.7% stock price swoon when Boeing announced lower than expected guidance for revenues and deliveries this year.
Boeing’s stock has lost around one-third of its value since reaching a historic peak on 21 February last year at $158.31.
Boeing uses a standard programme accounting method to book revenues and costs on major commercial aircraft development programmes. The 787 programme has an accounting block spread over a production run of 1,300 aircraft. Boeing estimates costs and revenues over the entire block, and assigns an average operating margin for each aircraft that rolls out the factory.
This means that aircraft delivered early in the production run show up on Boeing’s balance sheet with a profit, even though each costs significantly more to build than Boeing’s sale price. On the other hand, aircraft delivered late in the production run should be assembled more profitably than Boeing’s balance sheet would indicate, as the supply chain learns how to build the 787 faster and cheaper.
But the 787 programme has not followed the usual pattern of Boeing’s historic development programmes. The first 370 787s delivered to date have cost Boeing nearly $30 billion more to produce than the sale price. By contrast, the 777 developed an inflation-adjusted $3 billion in production losses before the programme turned profitable.
Boeing expects actual 787 production costs to break-even on a unit basis later this year, meaning the sale price roughly matches the amount it takes to build each aircraft.
By that point, however, Boeing will have about 700 aircraft remaining in the accounting block. To recover the $30 billion already spent, Boeing must build each of the next 700 787s for an average cost of about $91 million, says Richard Aboulafia, vice-president of analysis for the Teal Group.
“Unless I’m doing my numbers wrong with my back-of-the-envelope math something’s got to change,” says Aboulafia, speaking on 10 February at the Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance. “This has made what should have been a fantastic peace of greatness a far more complicated one for Boeing, and the implications of this moving forward we don’t know.”

What Happened To Zimbabwe Airways’ New 777?

May 24, 2018 by Ben (Lucky) 19

Other Airlines

In mid-April I first wrote about how Zimbabwe took delivery of a Boeing 777, which used to fly for Malaysia Airlines.
Zimbabwe’s government owned airline is 300 million USD in debt, so Zimbabwe did what any rational government would do, and planned to acquire four 777s that they’d lease to a start-up airline. This doesn’t come as any surprise, but there has been a lot of scandal surrounding this.
Scandal, scandal, scandal
The first bit of scandal revolves around the Mugabe family. The government claimed that this airline had absolutely nothing to do with Mugabe. That’s despite the fact that Mugabe’s son-in-law was one of the captains of the plane when they took delivery of it, and that Mugabe’s daughter met him when the plane arrived, and that the plane’s registration code is Z-RGM (with “RGM” presumably standing for Robert Gabriel Mugabe).

That’s only half of the scandal. It then came out that allegedly 140 million USD couldn’t be accounted for in this deal. That happens to me as well sometimes. You know, when you drop 41 million USD on something, and then 140 million USD goes missing. You’ve just gotta roll with the punches in life, you know?
I’ve been closely following Zimbabwe Airways, mainly because I’ve really been hoping to get on their inaugural flight. Could you imagine the fun destinations they’ll fly to? Perhaps Grace “Gucci” Mugabe could handpick her favorite shopping destinations and they could build the route network based on that? Having had the privilege of already flying on a plane with Ms. Gucci, I’d love to fly with her again!
It has been nearly six weeks since Zimbabwe Airways took delivery of their 777, and based on flight trackers I’ve been monitoring, the plane hasn’t moved. It’s still sitting at Harare Airport in Zimbabwe. So, what’s going on here?
The government of Zimbabwe is more involved than they claimed
The first interesting update here is that the government of Zimbabwe initially claimed that they weren’t involved with the new airline. That’s to say that they were responsible for the lease, but a private company would be operating the airline, and presumably would be paying lease payments to the government. They’ve now admitted that’s not the case.
According to The Economist:
The government had claimed for months that the new airline was a private initiative, funded by Zimbabwean investors living abroad. Joram Gumbo, the transport minister, told local newspapers it had been necessary to lie because “if they had been exposed as government of Zimbabwe planes, they would have been taken by the creditors who were claiming for money.” He also revealed that “the man in charge of Zimbabwe Airways” is Mr Mugabe’s son-in-law.
So what happens now that it has been revealed…?
Air Zimbabwe isn’t letting Zimbabwe Airways park their plane in hangar
It actually seems like this is quite reasonable, but there’s also apparently some controversy because Air Zimbabwe isn’t letting Zimbabwe Airways us their hangar for the 777. Instead the plane is parked at the domestic terminal at Robert Mugabe International Airport. According to zimeye.net:
The sources who spoke to weekend media said that the Air Zimbabwe hangars do not meet the standards required by the insurance companies for the plane of which the airline can not take the risk to accomodate the aircraft.
“The Air Zimbabwe hangar which was commissioned during Zimbabwe-Rhodesia era does not meet international standards for risk cover. It does not have smoke or fire detection system. It does not have a fire suppression system (automatic ceiling water/foam sprinklers. The other smaller hangar has been housing AirZim’s B737 which has been on major maintenance for more than four years now,” the source said.
So yeah, it doesn’t seem that unreasonable for them to not want to accommodate a plane when the facility isn’t equipped to do so (then again I’m not sure what exactly the facility is equipped to do, given that an Air Zimbabwe 737 has been in maintenance for more than four years…).
Bottom line
Just wow. I don’t think anyone in their right mind thought that the government of Zimbabwe was ever serious about this, though it’s especially sad that it looks like this may have just been a deal to make 140 million USD miraculously go missing. This money could have been better spent on the people of Zimbabwe.
I think it goes without saying that Zimbabwe Airways won’t be flying their 777 anytime soon, though I do wonder what will happen with it. Will this plane just be parked at Robert Mugabe International Airport until it’s completely unusable, will they sell it to another company soon, or what?

$140 Million Scandal Emerges With Zimbabwe’s New 777s

April 15, 2018 by Ben (Lucky) 23

Other Airlines

A couple of days ago I wrote about how Zimbabwe took delivery of a Boeing 777 this week, which used to fly for Malaysia Airlines.
Zimbabwe’s government owned airline is 300 million USD in debt, so Zimbabwe is doing what any rational government would do, and is acquiring four 777s that they’ll be leasing to a start-up airline in their country. Bye bye Air Zimbabwe, hello Zimbabwe Airways! What could possibly go wrong?
The government allegedly spent $41 million on the first two Boeing 777s, and they’ll get their next 777s once they can afford to pay for them (they wanted these planes last year, but couldn’t afford to pay for them at the time). I’ve certainly not been the only one scratching my head about this situation, wondering what exactly the motive was for this.
You guys aren’t going to believe this, but… a scandal is emerging regarding these 777s!
Gasp.png

Let’s remember that former president Robert Mugabe and his family had absolutely nothing to do with these new planes. Absolutely nothing. They said so themselves.
It’s a complete coincidence that Mugabe’s son-in-law was one of the captains of the plane, and that his daughter met him when the plane arrived.
I’m sure it’s also a coincidence that the plane’s registration code is Z-RGM (the “RGM” most definitely doesn’t stand for “Robert Gabriel Mugabe).
As it turns out, Zimbabwe may have slightly overpaid for these planes, or perhaps more accurately, some money just disappeared while they purchased the planes. News24 reports that in this deal, 140 million USD “couldn’t be accounted for,” which is prompting a probe by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Per the story:
“All in all, a total of $140 million cannot be accounted for as we speak, and that is why Mnangagwa had to order Gumbo to bring home the planes which were brought secretly using public funds,” the source said.
The source told the paper that Mnangagwa believed the airline deal was part of “a grand scheme to steal public funds” by people who had the backing of former president Robert Mugabe while he was still in power.
I don’t think it’ll take Scooby Doo to solve this mystery…

d85faf59dbb64eb2af26d6854dc038a6.jpeg

d1f3dc0e03f04b0ab9366a7c14061da4.jpeg

Original Boeing 777 and then exposed high-tech scams, FAA all the way to the green light, to make money to destroy humanity!

On March 10th, Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 unfortunately fell, causing a large number of deaths, which caused worldwide concern. Since then, Boeing has been grounded in 50 countries. Boeing has become the opposite of airlines around the world and has been strongly condemned. Even in the face of allegations, Boeing has always insisted that there is no security risk in its own aircraft. In the subsequent open letter, Boeing did not mention any apologies and compensation. Is Boeing really without design flaws? A recent message may give the answer.

According to the Global Times, Boeing recently announced the world's longest jet airliner 777X. Boeing said that the 777X is the world's largest and most efficient twin-engine jetliner, which will reduce fuel consumption by 12% and operating costs by 10% compared to its competitors. In particular, the 777X features the latest folding wing, which is representative of Boeing's next-generation technology.

At the time of Boeing's exaggeration, the management of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted Boeing a scandal of self-verification, and people began to question the safety of Boeing's 777X. The US "Seattle Times" reported that in order to catch up with competitor Airbus, the FAA entrusted the safety certification work to Boeing's own team, and also reduced the review work. In addition, the Boeing 737MAX aircraft has systematic flaws and provided in the safety assessment. Wrong data. In order to attract more buyers, Boeing also concealed the installation of a new aircraft system, reducing pilot training, to save huge costs as a selling point.

According to the news, the foldable wing on the Boeing 777X is the biggest selling point. It spreads out at the tip of the wing before take-off, then flies like other planes. After landing on the runway, it can quickly fold the wing. The plane that saves money and fuels is the best of both worlds. Other airlines simply can't think of such a subtle design. However, the FAA said that aircraft with folded wings have never been envisaged in current aerospace technology design. Because of the potential safety hazard of the folded wing, once taken off, it will have disastrous consequences. So the FAA requires Boeing to install multiple automatic alarm systems to ensure that the aircraft does not take off without fully deploying the wing. Doesn't this mean that the high-tech of Boeing airplanes is deceptive?

It seems that Boeing has already annihilated humanity in order to make money, and does not consider security and insecurity at all. This scandal has already shown that the capitalists have disregarded the consequences in order to maximize profits, and the US Federal Aviation Administration has become an accomplice, giving Boeing a green light, and the two sides have become typical representatives of money and political marriage. To put it bluntly, the transaction between Boeing and American Airlines is a kind of naked self-interest. They have fully exerted this kind of thinking, which is conducive to the strong support of the United States, and is not conducive to the United States' denial, regardless of whether the other party is an enemy or a friend. Therefore, the Western countries can no longer master the right to speak in high technology. Developing countries should find ways to break this monopoly and create their own technological products. Only in this way can we avoid the occurrence of tragedies.
