Singapore has become known worldwide for implementing corporal punishment and harsh prison sentences for vandalism, consequences which have effectively deterred many graffiti tourists. This video marks the first Singapore Metro system (SMRT) hit to be documented on video and the second time in history that the system has been painted. The vandalism quickly snowballed into a scandal that garnered global attention. The general public of Singapore was outraged and the then President and CEO of SMRT Corporation was forced to resign.

SMRT pinpoints Bishan depot’s drains, canals as vulnerable spots
SINGAPORE — Following a string of security breaches at its Bishan depot, SMRT yesterday identified drains and canals running underneath the facility as points presenting security vulnerabilities.

In a media statement, the public transport operator said it had been working with the authorities to “urgently address the identified points of vulnerability to further safeguard the depot and its transport assets, while keeping in mind the pertinent drainage considerations


SMRT accused PUB of sabotaging the depot but reality was chain link fencing were cut by American vandals.
