Police Department Letting People Pay Their Parking Ticket With Donations To Shelter Cats
www.awesomeinventions.com

There’s still some kindness in this world. If your faith in humanity is already shattered into pieces, allow us to mend it together by bringing you some inspiring stories about goodwill. Showing concern to animals is as equally as righteous as showing concern to our fellow human beings. Every time we hear stories about kind-hearted people doing good deeds to help shelter animals, it always warms the heart. These altruistic people make us realize that there’s still hope for mankind. Now, here’s another story of compassion towards animals that will surely inspire you. The Muncie Police Department, instead of charging parking violators with a fee, demanded the indebted citizens to donate cat supplies to the animal shelter.

In other words, anyone can pay off their parking tickets by donating cat foods, beds, blankets, litter, or any sort of cat supplies. Donations should be given directly to the Muncie Animal Care and should be in the amount of the fine. The Muncie Police Department thought of the idea when the animal shelter complained about cat overpopulation in mid-July. With limited funds, the shelter cannot provide all the basic necessities for its feline residents. This is when the brilliant idea came to mind.

On their Facebook and Twitter pages, the Muncie Police Department posted an announcement allowing citizens to pay their parking tickets in cat supplies. But the campaign only ran though July 19. The campaign proved to be a great success as the animal shelter received overwhelming donations, thanks to the innovative of the police department. Moreover, the Muncie Police Department has gained worldwide applause as their good deed is quickly shared on social media.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive from the community, and this is such a wonderful opportunity to help your local shelter,” the Muncie Animal Care wrote on Facebook. “Thank you to the Muncie Police Department for putting this together!”

Anyone doesn’t actually need a parking ticket to donate necessary supplies to animal shelters. But the Muncie Police Department thought of this way to involve the citizens in lending a helping hand to save animals. So with or without a parking ticket, you can also make a difference by helping shelter animals get by.

It's breaking my heart to think about how painful every moment must have been for her with that fishing line cutting into her. And despite her pain, she was still such a good Mama to her babies.

This Animal Shelter Is Asking People To Raid Them Instead Of Area 51
www.awesomeinventions.com

What started as a joke on Facebook has spurred so much public commotion. The infamous “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us” is a Facebook event scheduled for September 20. It currently has almost 2 million attendees as the page aims to invite more people to raid on Area 51 to look for extraterrestrial life. Due to the military site’s intense secrecy, it has become a center of conspiracy theories. And the base has been rumored to have been keeping aliens and other extraterrestrial beings. So, when alien fanatics planned to storm the restricted area, they received a stern warning from the US military. However, the creator of the page confirmed that it is meant as a joke. Nonetheless, this mishap inspired the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare to come up with a clever way to attract potential adopters. And they call this event “Storm the Shelter”.

okc-animal-welfare-storm-the-shelter.jpg

Instead of finding aliens, you will find adorable cats and dogs that are longing to find a loving home. The OKC Animal Welfare timely used the tagline ‘Storm the Shelter’ to encourage people to search for something real. Furthermore, it gives people an opportunity to save shelter animals in need.
“Come storm our shelter… We have great animals ready to protect you from the Area 51 aliens. Adoption isn’t that far out of this world!#stormtheshelter,”, the organization wrote on their Facebook page.
In order to make the theme more fitting to the cause, they dressed up the shelter animals to make them look like extraterrestrial creatures. With tin foil hats shaped like a pair of antenna on their heads, who could possibly resist these cute, friendly aliens? The ‘Storm the Shelter’ campaign received positive reactions from the people. One commenter says:
“Congratulations to your team for coming up with this incredible idea to help find homes for these babies. Probably the best marketing idea I have seen! Great job!”

The ‘Storm the Shelter’ campaign has already raised $2,791 from 126 backers. You can also show your support by donating thru the animal shelter’s Facebook page. We’re also glad to share the news that two of the three dogs pictured above already found a new home. The black dog named Lady is still up for adoption, though. If you’re a cat person, you may want to consider adopting one of the furry kittens on the photo above. As of this writing, the shelter has 116 dogs, 39 cats, and 2 pigs available for adoption. All pets are spayed or neutered before they’re given away to their new owners.

Always check out the shelter’s Facebook page or the OKC Government website to see pets that are available for adoption. You can also drop by the animal shelter every day from noon until 5:30 pm to meet the lovely animals in person. So yeah, leave the aliens alone and save our own animals instead.

Adorable before and after photos show how much being loved and cared for can affect a cat

This kitty goes from a scowling tomcat to a doe-eyed snuggler.

There’s a hot topic under discussion on Japanese webspaces right now, and that’s whether women’s faces become prettier when they’re loved. Is it true? Possibly. I mean, being in a loving relationship does tend to make you happier, which could smooth out the tension that we hold in our facial muscles and cause us to look more relaxed. That could translate as cute, right?

What we do know for sure, though, is that pets definitely change after being in a loving home. Just look at this adorable orange-striped munchkin cat shared by Twitter user Bikinchan (@00bibibi), whose before and after photos are striking.

The pictures were taken one year apart, and show a big difference in the cat’s demeanor. Before being adopted, Bikinchan says that the cat had been at the pet shop for one whole year without anybody wanting to buy it. Every time someone came close, it would rub its face against the bars of the cage, so it was balding a little bit on the side. It was probably also unhappy, judging from the scowl on its face.

But now, after one year of being cared for by a loving owner, its coat is fluffy and luxuriant, and its face looks relaxed and happy! Here it is, laying on the floor with its tummy exposed, not a sign of discontent or malice anywhere on its body.

beforeaftercat3.jpg

For a second comparison, let’s take a look at another picture of the cat from when it was still at the pet shop. Here it sits in someone’s arms–probably Bikinchan’s–but it doesn’t look relaxed yet. Its eyes are still narrowed and its brow furrowed, and his ears are turned back slightly, indicating displeasure. It looks like, if provoked, it might be ready to give someone a good smack.

beforeaftercat2.jpg

But now, after one year of being loved, cared for, and cuddled, the cat’s face is completely different. Its eyes are rounder and sweeter. Its face looks relaxed, its features softer and–dare we say it?–cuter. It looks almost like a different cat!

beforeaftercat4.jpg

Bikinchan’s photos went viral, for obvious reasons. This kitty was clearly sad for being unwanted and locked in a cage all day, so when it found a furever home with an owner who loved it, it became much happier! Many who commented also shared their own photos of animal transformations:

“[My cat] used to hide in the bathroom, and when our eyes met its pupils would dilate and its ears would flatten…” But in the last photo, which seems to be the most recent, its face is much friendlier!

So maybe it’s true, at least for pets. Being loved may be what makes our furbabies so snuggly, and what makes them pay our love back in kind. That’s why pets are a wonderful addition to the family!

Hamster Society S’pore Rescues 34 Abandoned Hamsters In 1 Night; They’ll Be Up For Adoption Soon
mustsharenews.com

The quest to fight for welfare of hamsters in the country continues for Hamster Society Singapore (HSS). They rescued a shocking total of 34 abandoned hamsters in 1 night.

On Sunday (28 Jul), the society shared the story of their epic rescue on Facebook.

Society president Ms Cheryl Capelli said they were alerted by good Samaritans who found the abandoned hamsters at:
  • The bin area in a Yishun HDB block
  • The bin centre of a Cairnhill condo
Some of the rescue hamsters are said to require veterinary attention, and HSS is running low on funds, given the sudden increase of rescued “victims” in a day.

17 abandoned hamsters rescued at Yishun

According to Ms Capelli, a good Samaritan found 17 abandoned hamsters of different ages placed in 4 cages at 9.30am Saturday (27 Jul).

They were located inside glass cabinets near the bin area of a HDB block in Yishun. At 1pm, they were still there, so the rescuer decided to take them in.

Ms Capelli said,
They were in a sorry state — their cages were dirty and they were scrambling on top of each other.
After cleaning the cage and contacting HSS, the society swiftly picked up all the hamsters by 10pm.

Another 17 rescued at Cairnhill

As HSS went to retrieve the Yishun hamsters, another rescue was taking place. They had received another alert of some 14-17 hamsters in distress at a Cairnhill condo.

The condo management in Cairnhill was reportedly caring for some 14-17 hamsters abandoned in 8 cages. They were apparently dumped at the bin centre when their owners moved out.

Taking pity on the hamsters, 2 hamster lovers managed to rescue 12 of them before contacting HSS. Some hamsters were suspected to be pregnant.

Even though HSS received news of the Cairnhill hamsters at 1am Sunday (28 Jul), they sprang to the rescue all the same.

More hamsters rescued 2 days before

Ms Capelli related that 2 days before the Yishun and Cairnhill episodes, her team managed to rescue another 2 abandoned hamsters in an Aljunied HDB block last Thursday (25 Jul).

The hamsters were found in such a bad state that when they were rescued, they stank up the whole car.

Couldn’t save all of them

Despite their best efforts, Ms Cairnhill had sad news to share.
If you thought the drama ended there, you’re wrong. 1 of the mother hamsters from the Yishun batch rejected her jellybean babies due to stress.
Despite volunteers trying to hand-feed the babies milk every hour, 2 of them passed away.

Rest in peace, little ones.

How you can help

With HSS trying their best to help these precious creatures, their efforts wouldn’t be possible without help from fellow hamster lovers out there.
If this story moves you, here’s how you can help:
  • Spread the word about HSS’ adoptable hamsters — so they can free up space for these new rescues. You can check out their adoption gallery here.
  • If you would like to make a private donation, send them a message on Facebook.
Hamsters may be small, but they are innocent lives that matter all the same. Do be a responsible pet owner and keep your hamsters individually in their own cages — this prevents careless breeding.

Meanwhile, share this with your family and friends so that you can help spread awareness about hamster care and hopefully, reduce numbers of abandoned hamsters in Singapore.
