A man was fined $2,000 yesterday for using threatening words on the chairman of the Young People's Action Party Marine Parade Branch. Peethambaran Dilip, 57, claimed he would incite hatred among the different races in Singapore and also indicated to Ms Nancy Quah Suat Lay, 36, that he would sow discord between Singaporeans and Malaysians.

The unemployed man did so at the party's branch at Marine Crescent as he was not satisfied with their level of aid. Peethambaran had been visiting the branch since July last year to seek help from relevant government agencies after being unemployed for some time.

On October 28 last year, he was served by Ms Quah. Peethambaran soon became agitated and threatened her. Alarmed by his words, Ms Quah referred the matter to branch secretary Ong Shang Jim, 42, who then informed the police.

Peethambaran's lawyer Noor Mohamed Marican told the court yesterday that his client has realised his mistake. An Institute of Mental Health report states Peethambaran is also suffering from delusional disorder. Shaffiq Alkhatib

Mentally unstable or not, I have helped a not so educated relative seek help from these seesions...I can tell you, most of them are plain arrogant, pompus, ba@#$#@d...
