Aggressive cyclist 'competes' with driver on road

STOMPer suiceechia was ticked off by this cyclist who sped past his car as he was turning into a main road.

The STOMPer recounted the incident:

"I was driving out of Rail Mall turning slowly into the main road when this idiotic cyclist who thinks he is driving in the countryside dashed past my car.

"Who the hell does he think he is? Iron Man?

"These cyclists are a traffic hazard!"

One beats red light, another threatens bus driver -- what's with these cyclists?

A cyclist was spotted beating the red light at a traffic junction between Old Jurong Road and Upper Bukit Timah Road by STOMPer William last Saturday (Feb 25), who was appalled at the blatant disregard of traffic regulations.

This incident came off the back of a Caucasian cyclist earlier today (Mar 1) who parked his bike in front of a bus, and threatened to beat up the driver, after accusing him of trying to run him off the road.

The STOMPer wrote:

"I was at a traffic junction between Upper Bukit Timah and Old Jurong Road last Saturday (Feb 25) when I saw the cyclist blatantly zoom past the red light. This was while cars from the other direction was starting to move off.

"Cycling enthusiasts are getting bolder these days, disregarding traffic regulations.

Cyclists running red lights and riding abreast: Obey the rules please

cyclists_running_red_lights_and_riding_abreast_obey_the-thumbnail.jpg

STOMPer Ailin is fed up with rule-breaking cyclists who run red lights and who ride side-by-side, hogging lanes and forcing other vehicles to change lane unnecessarily.

The STOMPer wrote:

"Have you ever seen cyclists in Singapore beating the red light and cycling side-by-side?

"Well this behavior is not only inconsiderate, but also dangerous.

'Sometimes they can be quite irritating, especially if you are a bus driver. Because they 'take over' the extreme left lane and sometimes even occupy the middle lane, heavy vehicles like buses and trucks have to change lane unnecessarily.

"And because they don't follow the traffic rules, they can easily overtake vehicles by beating the red light or when a bus stops at a bus stop.

"And the whole cycle of over taking and being taken over can go on for a very long distance.

"Maybe in some other countries, cyclists are allowed to use the road in the way they want, but here in Singapore, where roads are much busier and lanes are relatively narrower, cyclists have to follow the traffic rules even more strictly.

'Being one of the many road users who share the precious three-lane-space on the road, every one of us has to learn to be more considerate, for others' convenience and for our own safety."

these are quite common esp changi coast road yet we must siam them.

This situation is getting worse. I used to cylcle all over the island during teenage time - now I won't allow my child to ride a bicycle on Sg streets simply because the traffice has grown so much I no longer consider it safe. Cyclist should cycle in the parks and apart from those who actually use bucycles for work, there is no dire need for "sports" cyclist to occupy the already congested streets and compete for space with buses, taxis, and other road-going vehicles.

And this situation is going to get worse with the growing popularity of this activity. As a driver, there have been cases where I was faced with sudden decisions to avoid colliding with cyclists unaware that they're an obstacle.

The authorities should figure out something before accidents occur. I don't blame motorists from getting pissed off at cyclists who are exposed and think that it is the responsibility of motorised vehicles to avoid them.

they are first world beings, 3rd world sinkies should give way to them to show them respect.

hi there

1. tonny, in chineyland there are more bikes & cyclists than any part of the world.
2. what would you term them as "some xxx world" or what?

Chinkyland is in my ignore list. so i would not even bother with them. Their behavior are very similar to sinkie, so why would i wanna pay any attention to them.
