A MAN who allegedly went onto the Brisbane Airport tarmac last night and tried to interfere with a Jetstar aircraft as it was preparing to takeoff was remanded in custody when he appeared in court today.

Philip Murray Daley, 31, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning, April 21, charged with entering airside areas without authorisation, prejudicing the safe operation of an aircraft and wilful damage of a glass panel of a security door.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Tara Pease said Australian Federal Police officers alleged Daley, who was booked on the Jetstar flight, forced his way onto the runway in an attempt to board the aircraft.

The staircase had been removed and the plane was starting to go down the runway, in preparation for take-off, when Daley entered the secure tarmac area, Sgt Pease said.

He had allegedly broken a glass panel covering an emergency button that allowed entry to the tarmac.

Sgt Pease said AFP officers had to enter the tarmac area, risking their own lives, in order to stop Daley from approaching the aircraft.

Defence solicitor Sarah Lynch said Daley, who had a ticket for the flight, had failed to board the plane, although his name had been called.

“He panicked and tried to catch the flight,'' she said.

Sgt Pease said Daley could face a term of imprisonment if convicted of the Commonwealth offences.

Daley also was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, stalking a woman and five other Queensland offences arising out of the alleged car pursuit of a former girlfriend on April 19.

Magistrate Paul Kluck said there was an unacceptable risk of Daley reoffending and he remanded him in custody, to reappear on May 2.
