I am PR here in Singapore, live here since 2006 and work under local contract in a Singaporean company. I live in a house together with Singaporean. I love to be in Singapore and feel very integrated. I don抰 really like to hang out with expats. Most of my friends are local. I avoid places like Tanglin, Orchard Demsey and Holland V, order 揔opi Ping?or 揝ambal Goreng, tapau? And sure?I can sing the national anthem.
But how often people calling me 揂ngmo?which is actually a racist term. Or the uncle in cab mumbling some rude words in Chinese (which I know because my Chinese working colleagues teaching me these) when I want to pay with Nets instead of cash. And why get my local friends almost double chicken on their chicken rice for the same price I pay? And when I moved my first time from one house to an other, I found out, that the movers charged me almost double than they would charge a Singaporean.
Yes, sometimes local thinks we are rude. Just because we say what we think if we are not happy with a situation instead of just swallowing it and solving it the passive aggressive way.
8:30 am, Lavender MRT, The train is full. I need to alight but until I made my way to the door, people already coming in and going out becomes really stressful and almost impossible. It shows how selfish and egoistic many people here are. And they don抰 think! Let people out, then have more space for going in. Would be very simple. Why does it in Europe work? Such situations are making the standard European angry and the standard European is getting loud.
Anyway? Most of the jobs which don抰 include Aircon environment (house building, road cleaning? would not be done by Singaporeans. A lot of knowledge (for example nano technology, pharma? was brought to SG by foreigners. Most of the Singaporean doctors having a diploma from Cambridge or other overseas university. Banks from all over the world bringing their own staff (expats) to Singapore, agree. But also a lot of money without Singapore government would have a big problem. These expats earning nice money. But also paying lots of taxes. And they spend the money! In stores run by Singaporeans. And the expats are renting all these overpriced condo flats. The expats also drive overpriced cars. So?foreigners are not stealing money from Singapore.
There are many other countries (like the most in Europe) which have 搑eal?foreigner problems. They have immigrants which are coming without a single cent in their pocket and they find asylum. The citizens of these countries keeping the immigrants alive with tax money. Here in Singapore, they throw people out when they don抰 have cash. So?there are very good reasons why Singapore accepts so many foreigners. Because these foreigners are beneficial for this country.
