Payton Scott Velo, 44, a businessman was charged with commercial sex with a minor yesterday, after his original court date had to be adjourned when he attempted suicide.

According to a report from The Straits Times, Payton was found perched naked on the roof of a five-storey condominium in Telok Kurau on June 19, the day before he was due to appear in court. The American was persuaded to come down after a five-hour stand-off and was arrested, then warded at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

Velo, represented by Ms A. Sangeetha, allegedly paid $280 for the sexual services of a 16-year-old at his former residence at One Tree Hill between 11.03pm and 11.26pm on Feb 19. Deputy Public Prosecutor Stella Tan Wei Ling applied for a gag order to protect the girl’s identity.

The minor’s alleged pimp, his girlfriend and an assistant have also been charged in connection with the online prostitution ring case. Their cases are at pre-trial conference stage.

So far, three of the 12 men charged with having commercial sex with the same victim have pleaded guilty and are each serving 12 weeks behind bars.

He actually made matters worse for him now. His face is all over the news again for all the wrong reasons, with a story that people remember for a long time. He should have just kept a low profile and accepted his punishment. 12 weeks is nothing, unless he is very desperate to not get a criminal record.
