According to unverified rumors circulating in cyberspace, both Ang Mo Kio GRC and Hougang SMC may hold by-elections at the same time!
A local Chinese tabloid claimed today that Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Seng Han Thong is considering retiring from politics and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong may make use of the opportunity to bring in NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Ong Ye Kung into Parliament.
However, Mr Seng is still active in his grassroots work in Ang Mo Kio GRC and just visited Ang Mo Kio Hub on Monday to ‘recce’ the place after a Singaporean lodged a police report that her son was almost ‘abducted’ by a PRC couple there.
Mr Ong Ye Kung was one of the new PAP candidates slated for a leadership position in the cabinet, but his team lost Aljunied GRC in last year’s General Election.
Another candidate mooted is former SAF Chief Guards Officer Colonel Yau Thian Hock who tendered his resignation suddenly without warning two weeks ago, prompting speculations that he may be fielded as a candidate in Hougang by-election.
The Hougang seat was left vacant after its ex-WP MP Yaw Shin Leong was sacked from the Workers Party for his failure to address swirling rumors about his alleged extra-marital affairs with multiple married women, including a neighbor from China.
