STOMPer Kacy was amused after reading a New Paper report (Sep 26) about a man who was selling his licence plate for $1 million.
Local car dealer Andy Lau is selling a Q-series licence plate for that price after purchasing it for $50,000.
The licence plate, Q69M, has numerals which when put together resemble the yin and yang symbols, which are popular in Chinese culture.
Previously, the sale of a Housing Board executive maisonette at Block 149 Mei Ling Street for $1 million became a talking point among members of the public.
The flat was bought by a Singaporean couple who had previously owned a private property.
The STOMPer wondered if these incidents showed a rise in the cost of living in Singapore.
Said the STOMPer:
"The cost of living in Singapore has been increasing rapidly over the past few years.
"Cost of transportation, food, housing and others.
"Recently a handful of HDB houses have been transacted at $1 million!
"With all the crazy sellers and buyers around, now a number plate is being sold for $1 million?
"I guess, buying a $1 million car plate is somehow better because everybody will know you are extremely rich."
