Anderlecht have secured their 31st Belgian Pro League title after salvaging a 1-1 draw with Club Brugge at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on Sunday.

Brugge opened the scoring in the 72nd minute via Maxime Lestienne, but Guillaume Gillet restored parity when he converted a penalty well into stoppage time to help the Brussels giants to their second league title in three years.

Anderlecht will gain direct entry into the Champions League group stages should Bayern Munich win the final against Chelsea on May 19, but will have to play in the third qualifying round if the English club win.

Paars-wit hold a seven-point lead over Brugge with only two more games to go, against Kortrijk and Standard Liege respectively.

Jacobs parts company with Anderlecht

The successful coach has decided to step down after four-and-a-half years in charge of the Belgian champions as he feels the time has come to move on

Ariel Jacobs has announced his decision to leave his post as Anderlecht coach, despite guiding Paars-wit to the league title this term.

The 58-year-old had an expiring contract with the Brussels giants, and opted not to extend his stay with the Belgian champions.

"I have made the decision to move on. It's in the club's best interest to end our collaboration. We looked at all the pros and cons, and the best thing to do is go our separate ways," Jacobs stated at a press conference.

Jacobs took charge of Anderlecht during the 2007-08 campaign, and has since guided them to two league titles and one Belgian cup.

"I have never worked with a coach like Ariel, and that's probably one of the main reasons why he stayed here such a long time. It's a real shame to see him go," commented club president Roger Vanden Stock.
