At the founding of modern Taiwan, even the Kuomintang asserted that that Taiwan is a part China, to be reunited at some point in future. Historically it was part of the Qing Dynasty until Japan invaded and took it away.

All said, take all this pronouncements of impending invasion of Taiwan by the US with a huge ladle of salt. They're just warmongering: to Ukrainise Taiwan, to agitate for a proxy war through Taiwan with China, and to generate billions of dollars of revenues for their huge military-industrial complex. Their own troops will never be deployed. Just lots of weapons sales, and big infrastructural projects to mop up the mess after the war.

The PLA is not so stupid as to start a war with Taiwan if no one changes the status quo. Ukraine is a huge lesson, Russian victory notwithstanding, on how a long attritional war can be detrimental to meeting long term social and economic targets, as well as drain a country's coffers.

The Han migration from Fujian (Xiamen, Zhangzhou, Quanzhou) to Taiwan took place in the mid-17th century, just before the end of the Ming Dynasty. Thereafter Taiwan remained under Qing rule until 1895 when the Japs took over.

Unlike the orang asli in M'sia, the Taiwanese aboriginals have fully assimilated into Taiwanese/Hoklo culture - they speak the same language (Mandarin & Hokkien), pray to the same gods, eat the same food.

That's why an amphibious invasion is not on the table. All this talk of invasion is just American disinformation meant to up the ante, change the status quo and provoke a Chinese response, a la Russia in Ukraine.

Amphibious invasion is one of the possible way and one of the main ways the PRCs has to make in order to move their army into Taiwan.

Of course with their week army, I'm still waiting for the j20 of China's Air Force to make an appearance.

I am sure the j20 is also another flying coffin.
