Amos Yee looks drastically different in new photos from US prison - Singapore News

SINGAPORE: New prison photos of Singaporean Amos Yee have emerged online, showing the 24-year-old looking drastically different compared to previous years.

The photos, uploaded on the official website of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), show a visibly older-looking Yee wearing a blue jacket, with his trademark long hair shorn completely.

Yee is almost halfway through the six-year sentence he is serving in the Illinois River Correctional Center for child porn and grooming. The IDOC website shows that his projected parole date is set for later this year, on 6 Oct.

Yee’s projected discharge date is on 8 Oct 2026. His profile on the IDOC website states that he is required to remain on the sex offender’s registry in the United States.

It is clear that the past three years of incarceration have taken a toll on Yee. When he was first remanded by the Chicago Police Department in 2020, he appeared a lot more youthful. In more recent photos released last year, Yee still had his long hair although he looked more unhappy than he does in the latest mugshots.

Yee first gained notoriety in Singapore in 2015 for his controversial blog posts and videos, in which he criticized the government and various religious figures, including Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who had died just prior to the release of the then-16-year-old’s videos.

In 2016, Yee fled Singapore and sought asylum in the United States. He was granted asylum in 2017, but his troubles with the law continued.

Yee was taken into custody in October 2020 when authorities obtained messages that he had exchanged with a 14-year-old girl from Texas between April and July 2019, during which time he shared nude photos with her via WhatsApp. Prosecutors asserted that the girl had informed Yee of her age on multiple occasions.

Yee had initially befriended the girl when he was 20 years old. The girl reported the relationship to a group of individuals interested in exposing pedophiles when their relationship deteriorated.

During his sentencing for the grooming and child pornography charges, a judge warned Yee that he may face deportation back to Singapore and could be prohibited from re-entering the US in the future.

This is the result of super lax parenting. Pamper the child like he is king and that's what you get.

I think Amos Yee’s mother should be blamed for how her son turned out. Useless cunt.

Amos Yee’s mother defends her indefensible son against Melissa Chen’s urge for the teen to be deported

In defense of her indefensible son, Amos Yee’s mother has come out to address the statements made by the teen’s former ally Melissa Chen, who recently urged that he be deported from the United States for his pro-pedophilia crusade.
And yes, the political asylee has been pretty busy being an activist for pedophiles since last year. The great de-platforming of Amos Yee was carried out after he stepped up his campaign to legitimize pedophilia, going so far as to set up a “pedo-friendly” server chat group on messaging app Discord and wanting to recruit people sympathetic to his twisted cause. The 19-year-old has since been kicked off Twitter, Discord, Facebook, and even WordPress.
Chen, the person who played a major role in helping Yee obtain political refugee status in the United States, had recently put out a lengthy monologue expressing her guilt for how the teen turned out. “Given my active role in his successful asylum case that gifted him a clean slate and newfound freedoms, I must actively oppose him out of sheer personal responsibility as he has thoroughly abused these hard-won freedoms,” she declared in a video.

Yee’s mother Mary Toh, however, took issue with Chen’s sentiments through a very lengthy criticism of the US-based Singaporean activist — accusing her of championing the views of neo-Nazis while finding the teen’s views on pedophiles repulsive. Though she disagrees with the views of both white supremacists and pro-pedophilia advocates, Toh argues that Chen didn’t need to “create negative PR” against free speech.
“Melissa is a person who champions and surrounds herself with people who support platforming: the KKK, White Supremacists, Neo-Nazis and Alex Jones, people and groups that from my knowledge, advocate (and sometimes even directly cause) actual violence to people,” Toh wrote, claiming that her son has never advocated for direct harm against any child.
“The only reason I can think of why Melissa would criticize Twitter for banning nazis, yet subsequently call for Amos’ deportation, is because in America now it’s more popular to defend the ‘free speech rights’ of white supremacists and nazis, but not pedophiles.”
Toh then drops a vicious (and probably unnecessary) burn on Chen.
“She is dishonest, she is intellectually dishonest, a far cry from the skepticism and willingness to engage in ideas (no matter how reprehensible), values that she claims to uphold. I feel like she made that video against Amos based on completely biased misinformation spread about him by haters, and I think she should really refrain from posting on the internet whilst menstruating.”
Oof. It appears that Toh remains very much defensive of her son, claiming that Yee is a victim of “completely biased misinformation spread about him by haters,” as if he did nothing wrong at all by wanting to defend pedophiles.
It’s unclear where Toh got the information about Chen being supportive of white supremacists, but the accusation could stem from the free speech activist’s association with the conservative-leaning crowd, thanks to her appearances on The Rubin Report and Mythcon.
According to Toh, her son has attempted to reach out to Chen to clear any misunderstandings. The mother even hopes that Chen would issue a public apology for her “embarrassing” public statement.

Posting from Amos Yee’s mother

https://mothership.sg/2018/05/amos-yee-mommy-boy-mary-toh/

This is Mary Toh's post in full:

I’m aware that Amos has been criticising me and explaining why he doesn’t love me as a mother on his Facebook page. I’d like to clarify the text message where I was advising him to sit straight to prevent back problems and he replied ‘shut the fuck up’. Amos asked for my permission to post that text message and only when I agreed did he post it. Amos did bring awareness to how he was upset from how I spoke to him and because of that I am now trying harder to foster better communication skills with him.

I’m a little upset that Amos very boldly said that he ‘didn’t love me as a mother’. However I don’t think he’s really wrong to say that. He’s right that we’re both very different people whether that’s just inborn or because of random chance. I don’t think parents can or should raise their child to be exactly the way that they want. A parent is a big influence to a child but not that big an influence, especially in this modern period where children are introduced to friends and the internet at a much earlier age. I think it’s best as a parent to not be disappointed if your child turns out differently from what you have expected, but instead try to embrace it.

I agree that children don’t always have to love their parents if they don’t. It seems very insincere to need to love someone just because people say you have to, and I definitely don’t ever want Amos to feel like he is forced to love me. This is a tragedy of being a parent, when you can choose to nurture and love a child unconditionally throughout his life and then eventually he might not love you when he grows up. It’s very sad but I think that’s something every parent should think of if they ever decide to give birth to a child. I think as a parent you need to feel joy just loving someone unconditionally and taking care of someone without expecting anything. If it’s so important that if you give birth to a child he/she must turn out to love you, then one may have to try having more children to increase the chances. Amos and I still talk, and even though he says he doesn’t love me, I’m still satisfied with our relationship and proud of many of the things he’s done.

I’m also of course aware that Amos was kicked out from his place again. As a parent I’m worried and advising him as much as I can on basic life skills so hopefully he won’t be kicked out again, and also of course providing emotional support whenever he needs it. I’m not sure how it’s like to find a place in America, so I’m counting on his friends in Chicago to guide him and teach him. I’ve spoken to those friends and they are very nice and caring.

Finally I want to address people who have blamed me for Amos’ behaviour that they find disagreeable. This is ridiculous and just an attempt to smear me for no good reason. I am not a huge influence to Amos’ life or his personality; the friends he talks to and the things he watches have played a far bigger role in shaping him than me. Plus it’s not as if I haven’t advised him countless times whenever I think what he’s doing is wrong. Sometimes he listens to me, but most of the time he doesn’t, should I start scolding and beating him? I studied early childhood education and most professionals on parenting would agree that loudly scolding or beating your child actually does more harm than good and are only for the parents who don’t know how to parent.

I deny responsibility that I should be blamed. If anyone wants to send me concerned messages to send to Amos thinking that it’ll convince him more because it’s from his mother, please don’t. It’s very annoying because not only does he not listen to me, I also don’t think I’m the right person to give him advice because honestly, I am very unsure what he’s doing; I can’t understand the things he’s saying on the internet half the time. So please don’t unnecessarily bother me; all such messages or harsh comments will be deleted and users blocked. Amos has also been deleting comments and blocking users on his page. It’s a waste of time for both of us to hear the same repetitive comments over and over without anything constructive, so we won’t.

Thanks for reading
