After looking at the headline and listening briefing to his opening speech, I did not go further. There may indeed be empty/abandoned houses. But For a population of 1.4 billion, there "are" 1 billion houses (empty or occupied)? That's a bit far fetched, especially with a negative population growth.

Apparently you have no idea how fucked-up China really is.

Are you absolutely sure Tiongland still has 1.4 billion population? How many died during the scamdemic and draconian lockdowns?

Also, entire clusters of newly built condos have been demolished because no one is buying them, and they need the land.

A hard pill to swallow for low IQ Tiong fanboys.

Using building infrastructure to boost economy is a cheap and easy solution. Cheap as in easy and credit is easily available when times are good. But they are still trying to loan the money to the poorer cousin in BRIC now. Trying to build chip plant.. trying to build their electric car.

Now with high interest rate, the Tiong are asking the banks to loan their local with low interest loan. End result , people borrow in china and invest outside of country without doing any work.

It's much easier when the country is the size of a snot and you have no grandiose geopolitical ambitions.

not only cheap, it's an easy way to boost numbers but non-productive dead end. basically just lies.

build and tear down after empty buildings sit idle and unfinished for 6.9 years. plus millions more housing units in several cities. if you’ve never been to prc’s ghost cities, you won’t have a clue. it’s not a billion but at least a hundred million.
